From the video is seems like you are very free of tension throughout your swing. Did you find this easy to accomplish or did you have to work to it? What were the keys to achieving this? I am working to have a tighter thumb hole but even when my thumb hole is tighter I can’t really swing without tension. Would love any insight you might have.

i would suggest keeping your thumb pointed toward the pins on your lane instead of away from it and keep it that way all throughout the swing. it will help your forearm 'catch' the ball as you bend-release at the bottom. it will cause a better end over end roll that lowers tilt which increases pin action.

So your videos have helped me a bunch understanding the flick it motion, ive been working on getting more revs and getting thumb out first but its 50/50 mind and physical. I have big cushions for my kids nugget couch i set up at home to practice no step, 1 step and even full approach but i cang really slide. Its def a process and i think im rushing it all This did help a lot and i appreciate the detail you put in your videos
@bowlersoup13 күн бұрын
You're welcome! 👋🏻 Nugget like chicken nugget? 😁 Yep! Every time, try something different; it's a lot of trial and error. When I was going through my journey, I really just kept at it. It was something I really wanted to learn and I learned it (easy to say, I know right). As I've said in one of my other videos, remember this: "You gotta tell yourself you can do the release... you just haven't done it yet..." 🫡
@dustinskorny305912 күн бұрын
@bowlersoup lol no not chicken nugget. Basically big cushions that can fold and put in different formations, i use it as a soft landing spot for bowling practice. Yeah i am just working on too much at once so im going to go back and start with my timing and footwork.

Should I be able to bend my thumb at the first knuckle while in the thumb hole? It is so difficult to know how tight? I can pick up my ball with my fingers in the ball without squeezing my thumb, but I can still move my thumb quite a bit from the tip to the first knuckle.
@bowlersoup13 күн бұрын
Oof. Too loose! You wanna try to keep that first knuckle as straight as possible for the fastest exit of the bowling ball. Being able to squeeze at the first knuckle like that will hinder your ability to do so! I'd suggest having your pro shop operator take a look at your thumbhole and planning a solution to get it more snug (tape, new slug, interchangeable thumb perhaps) Going from a loose thumbhole to a more snug thumbhole is a gradual process and will take some time for you to get used to that new feeling! 🫡

As someone who backup bowls, I have plenty of recordings on how to show. Best way I can explain it though if you're one handed... instead of cupping your wrist like the traditional right to left (if you're right handed...) a flick with the wrist does it for me... I flick and kinda cup my wrist and finish with my pointer finger pointing up towards me.

I wish you could elaborate more on not gripping the ball. I have a tendency on grip with all 3 fingers. By the end of the night, I would rip the side of my thumb. Guidance please.
@bowlersoup14 күн бұрын
Think of your thumb as the controller to your game, your thumb controls/dictates how much squeezing will occur and ultimately determines how you throw/release the bowling ball. Snug/tighter thumbhole = Good = Consistent throwing of the bowling ball because "less" squeezing occurs, hand is more relaxed Loose thumbhole = Bad = Inconsistent throwing of the bowling ball because "more" squeezing occurs, hand is not relaxed For starters, I'd recommend adding in thumb tape into the bowling ball, so that it becomes more snug (maximum of 3) and also adding tape on your thumb as well. If that still feels loose, talk to your pro shop operator. Start slow, let your body adjust to the changes, and go from there! 👋🏻
@RB-pc7tg19 күн бұрын
I have a similar issue where I slow down near the release point where I start to work my hand around the ball.
@bowlersoup14 күн бұрын
Definitely takes some time! I would do no step/foul line drills and 1 step drills to reinforce that idea in your head. Exaggerate staying behind the ball for as long as you can, even if it feels weird at first. Once you feel that feeling, put it in your full approach 🫡

@bowlersoup19 күн бұрын
Going lighter “can” help you get under the ball more but what will ultimately help is wrist/forearm conditioning over time! Just a few tips: Properly snug thumbhole to ensure unnecessary squeezing doesn’t occur (number one thing) and really isolating the release through no step/foul line drills. All in all, the feeling might not be understood yet, but it’s there! 🫡
