I'm a new drummer and I saved this video. It is good for me as a beginner as it has grooves I'm familiar with and could quickly pick up, and a couple I'm going to have to work on and come back to later. Thank you.

What’s a “true” metal fan then, according to you?

Sorry my friend, chops is not a fill it is the ability to play that fill. A drummer who has great chops shows it in their fills or phrasing. Fills are what you learn through lessons, by ear or watching someone else play. Still playing at 75 with 63 years experience and still shedding. ✌️
@ThatSwedishDrummer2 күн бұрын
Yeah, and chops can mean several things. Just as if you say "That singer really got some chops", would usually mean that singer is versatile and can sing in a wide range and with different techniques. Same goes for drummers, but chops are also referred to what I mention in the video (repeated musical phrasings around the drums). 😊

I'm a novice metal drummer that's been playing for abt a year now and this is extremely helpful - especially bc I struggle to come up with good&appropirate fills. Thank you so much!

Nice video as always my man! I saw the words simple and chops in blue bold letters and was immediately sucked in 😜 In all seriousness, always love your stuff. I’m currently trying to work on keeping my ghost notes down when chopping. Makes all the difference in the difference in the world in terms of sound. Just really tough to keep em low and consistent when you get to playing fast.

In my opinion, after a lot of time practicing this instrument, chops are easy, sticking is easy... the real deal is what dynamics you decide to make use of and obviously when. Chops and sticking is about learning them slowly, get the coordination on point, increase their speed and that's it, after a while, you have the muscle memory needed. But dynamics, oh my, that's what makes you start getting money in your pockets.

how long would it take to fully grasp the first technique?
@ThatSwedishDrummer3 күн бұрын
That's a tough question, because it all depends on how much you practice and the quality of the practice.

That high tune is nice and bright and crisp. Take credit. There are many drummers with the same equipment who still dont know how to key tune properly. Like playing it also demands a touch and a feel. Cheers mate.

A little overplaying...getting ahead and on top of the groove instead of sitting back and holding tight in the pocket. But I chalk that off to youth. CJ is a wonderful player. But you always have to serve the music not serve it up. Not a negative criticism brother. Love your channel.
