Yeah your dead on about if the crm is even important as they just get wiped out stupidly easy in TWD WTOWL. The biggest thing letting this universe down is that the writing isn’t good enough to justify its existence. At best it’s mediocre, but more times than not these spin offs become duds. FTWD? Peaked at S3, nose dived into a dumpster since. Tales? Utter filler garbage. World Beyond? Teen drama with an average final season. The ones who live? Kinda all over the place. The Maggie and Daryl shows? Haven’t even watched/ got a synopsis of them since I mentally checked out after TWD non ending ending. What’s there really to show of worth in this universe? I even now regret getting a TWD decal on my car.

The Ones Who Live was a big letdown. Daryl Dixon and Dead City are just fun little detours. I hope they don't let either of those shows drag on too long. Find the right direction and end these characters's stories once and for all. They did that with TOWL but it probably needed to be like 3 seasons or so.

@@KRWNetwork I’m not against spinoffs per say. Better call Saul is a great example of spinoffs. I see what AMC is doing is the same thing DC did. They put the chicken before the egg. I should be mad at Gimple, but I’m just tired truth be told. I don’t like things that go on forever. At the least I wanted a decent ending to the main show. And we didn’t even get that. Game of Thrones ending was bad as well, but it felt like a sudden sharp decline while TWD had a gradual decline that just had enough good moments to keep people like me sticking around where others checked out early. I used to love this world. Hell I even spent a few years just re editing the main show so it would be the best of both show and comic, but now I don’t even have enough energy to finish the last 1.5 seasons. I don’t care who lives or dies anymore. Daryl, Negan, Maggie, don’t give a shit anymore. The only thing that would ignite my interest again was if they did a 100% faithful retelling of the comic animated style. But I have a deep bad feeling AMC will never do that.

Setting up the series premiere like Star Wars Episode III would also allow them to address one of the most controversial aspects of the show: Lisa's NUDITY Lisa: Mom! These stockings are FLESH-colored! Everyone's gonna think I'm NAKED! Marge: That's all they had, Lisa. Can't you hear how tired I am, of looking for dark stockings, for an 8-year-old girl, in my voice? Lisa: Wow, Mom, you really ARE tired! You sound like Grandma! I'll wear them, Mom. Succession's characters are a joke. For a drama series to work, you need to know a character's dreams, fears, insecurities and the explanation to those, and that has to be stablished as fast as possible. In succession that isnt stablished for ANY of the characters, EVER. The characters are incredibly unrealistic and they dont have arcs, or when they do, it looks like they were written by someone having a mental breakdown, because the scenes dont tie together and everything is all over the place. I am literally THE target audience for a show like this. I love suits, GOT and my two favourite movies are The Big short and The Wolf of Wallstreet. And i hated it, cant even express how much.

I agree with this! My initial point still stands tho. The fact that they are expanding it with no clear directions other than exploration into different parts of the world, just with the same characters is a weak formula. There is no overarching story or reason for it. That defeats the purpose of a "universe" of content.
@BurnsAfterReading3 ай бұрын
I agree, it’s honestly a miracle the new spinoffs are as good as they are. The whole thing reeks of “our IP is dying, how can we keep it going” but thanks to some amazing creatives like Erickson, Zabel and Jorne, we actually have some amazing stuff. I think that’s what will save TWD, opening it up to creatives who can explore new places, characters and stories within the world, connected to the main show or not.

I respect your opinions and you are fully entitled to them. Not every show is everyone’s cup of tea, and it’s great that there are so many options of shows to watch these days. I’m going to explain some of the reasons why it is one of my favorite shows ever. It is different from the other “prestige tv” shows many of which I like to call “male violence shows.” Mad Men is a major exception to that. I’m not saying they’re at all bad, I’m sure they’re fantastic, but they don’t interest me. I just really don’t like shows with a ton of violence, nudity & action sequences. I tend to HATE cop, spy or detective shows. I’ve never been compelled to watch shows such as Breaking Bad, The Wire, Justified, The Shield, 24, Sons of Anarchy, Ozark and Oz. I am watching The Sopranos for the first time (it is as awesome as I hoped it would be) currently at the insistence of a friend, and plan to watch The Wire because “it’s the best tv show ever,” but not compelled to watch the others anytime soon. I have a theory that this show appeals more to female viewers like myself than male viewers. I promise I don’t mean that in a sexist way. I recently saw an annual survey on the r/television subreddit where users voted on their favorite shows of the past year and of all time. It was broken down by gender, and for the 2023 survey Succession voted as #1 show by female users. Do you want to know what some of my other favorite shows are? Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Ramy, Big Little Lies, The Bear, Severance, The West Wing, Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City and Hacks. Additionally, a lot of drama series are not funny enough to me, and therefore not entertaining enough (Better Call Saul and Severance are two recent exceptions to that). Unlike Succession which I found to be absolutely hilarious. They need to be funny for me to enjoy them. Most drama series take themselves way too seriously and are like watching a documentary. I watched the entire first season of an HBO series called My Brilliant Friend and found zero enjoyment in it. It was entirely humorless and felt like nonstop torture porn (literally, it had teen rape scenes). Where’s the entertainment in that? Ditto HBO’s Chernobyl, which I watched it it’s entirety. Lastly, I’m going to be very blunt. I don’t like watching shows showing “disgusting” settings. I don’t want to see super messy houses, gangs, crime scenes or strip clubs.

I really appreciate this comment. I think you make some good points, and I've never thought of this being a show driven by female fandom. As it stands, I'm VERY happy I stuck with this show. Idk how people can watch this and think that I'm being irrational with my opinion. I stuck with a show that I didn't vibe with for four seasons. my opinions aren't foreign. They are embedded with the experience of having watched the show. Not for wanting to criticize, but a genuine interest in seeing what comes next. I think that's what is the big issue with people in this comment section. The idea of, "if you don't like it, don't watch it" is very prominent, but I disagree. I think dislike can come from a place of wanting to see the show for one's self.

LOL omfg I just left a comment but 10 seconds after pressing play you say that Succession doesn’t have compelling characters and you can’t empathize with the Uber rich, and would be more likely to empathize with Dexter. 🥲 This is exactly the vibe I get when people criticize this show. IT WREAKS of prejudice “I can’t stand rich people”. I watched this reaction channel say so many times “die Logan! I hope he doesn’t make it and just dies right here and y’all deserve to suffer anyway cuz none of y’all good people anyway.” Ohhh, so noble! Love when people show how virtuous they are by hoping for the death and suffering of people you think are mean.

This show cuts deep on many things that trigger people. One of which is showing rich, mean republicans in a semi positive light by feeling sorry for these fictional characters who have a menace of a father. I think it crosses certain people’s wires when they have to humanize whoever they consider “an other”, and they subconsciously find reasons to not watch so life doesn’t feel so nuanced. I feel that Succession is similar to Hereditary in that way, it polarizes the audience because it’s super raw and different feeling than other scary/dramatic shows. Idk. I’ve been seeking out criticisms of the show I love just to leave comments insinuating that anyone who doesn’t like it must hate empathizing with rich folks or folks on the other side of the political aisle.
@KRWNetwork5 ай бұрын
Nothing to do with political perception. I'm glad you can feel the empathy for these characters. I'm not jaded enough to misunderstand the reasons people appreciate this story, these characters, or the circumstances that are meant to pull on your heart strings. I simply don't care. If you want to act like you're enlightened for your ability to empathize with fictional characters that are specially created to draw on said empathy... that's kind of a "you" thing.

Honestly I would have been satisfied with this whole variant thing just making survival even harder. I don't care if it's kinda dumb, zombies are already dumb. Showing that the virus has started to affect non-human animals could be terrifying, imagine they had to fight zombie mountain lions and stuff...okay considering how bad the animal CGI has been that might be a big ask but pretending they had the budget I'd be all for that. Add in more communities while kicking things up a notch so things can feel dangerous and the body count can get higher. A cure doesn't interest me so much, I think the ultimate message of the universe should be "We'd all be fine if we got our shit together and stopped fighting each other" and it should end in a way that reflects that, the remaining characters get together and make an Alexandria 2 with no Negan to mess it up because damn, humans finally figured it out.
