Jacob Marley's purpose in *A Christmas Carol* is to serve as a warning to Scrooge. He introduces the story's supernatural elements, foreshadows Scrooge's potential fate, and acts as a cautionary figure, showing the consequences of a life driven by greed and selfishness. His role sets the stage for Scrooge’s journey toward redemption.

Hi, I watched nearly all of your Eduqas videos for literature on the books I was doing, and I thought I’d pop a comment down to thank you for your frankly incredible and innovative ideas which greatly assisted me in my results. I got a 9 overall and 106/120 for paper 2. I hope you sleep well tonight knowing you helped thousands of students across the country. Thanks, on behalf of us all. (Hope this comment leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling😂)

These videos are really helpful. Maybe with the 'I'm rather more - upset' quote the dashes could also suggest hesitation as he may not be telling the truth/ is faking his distress in order to get away.

The inspector has no societal or economic class that he conforms to, choosing explicitly to distance himself from class based ideals that the birlings have (the whole I don’t play golf thing) because priestly isn’t just criticising the upper classes, he is advocating for a classless society. Also the idea that Inspector goole sounds like a ghost furthers this idea, as if the inspector is a ghost, in the afterlife there is no class driven society, only alike souls. Similar to ideas in a Christmas carol

Could you argue that the inspector is above upper class, as if he is the “ghoul” that brings judgement over the higher classes?
@DystopiaJunkie5 ай бұрын
That's a cool idea, but "above" might be a bit of a push. Him wearing a "plain darkish suit" suggests he isn't the Birlings' equal in terms of wealth, let alone their superior, while him being in a skilled professional job probably puts him below Mr Birling (business owner). You could maybe say that he's a "ghoul" that sits OUTSIDE of class boundaries, though, and serves to remind the audience that nobody is "above the law".

how could i link the aristotle's unities to everyone's character?
@DystopiaJunkie5 ай бұрын
I don't think it does link to the characters, to be honest! It's more about the play's form and structure than anything else.
@anamtahassan32125 ай бұрын
@@DystopiaJunkie so if one of the questions was on a character, how would I talk abt the structure or would i have to use a quote to then introduce structure
@DystopiaJunkie5 ай бұрын
Again, I'm not sure if this idea relates specifically to the characters (maybe at a push you could argue how one setting, one main action, one short time window could represent how the characters are quite "fixed in their ways" at the start of the play), but if you wanted to talk about structure more broadly in relation to characters, you could talk about who does / doesn't change throughout the play, tracking this with a sequence of characters. Aristotle's unities would be more relevant to a question related to how Priestley creates tension: the short timespan and fixed setting arguably makes the play feel quite claustrophobic.

Shakespeare chooses to present love as a complex emotion to contrast typical romantic love stories of the Elizabethan time and instead leave his audience questioning love near the end. The death of the lovers at the end of the play alongside the now forgiven families was intentional to suggest with love, confict arises and in order to overcome this conflict, a sacrifice is needed. my introduction, any feeback? 😊
