Nice job....I'm working on this with my choir now and know how difficult it was to get that blend.

This time around, I had a mental image of the Voyager spacecraft hurtling through space as joyously as an inanimate object can, then losing touch with earth as it crosses the heliopause. It was very moving.

The melody of the song does NOT come from the baroque, but from the classicism era. The melody, however, was not composed until 1822. Composer Dmitri Stepanowitsch Bortnjanski (1751-1825) worked well into the 19th century, the baroque ending around 1760.

Thank you, X.P. Of course, your timeline is correct as it relates to Western European music. While I am not the expert on Russian Music, our former artistic director crafted this concert to cover the period of development of Russian liturgical music from the pre-polyphony era through the development caused by the introduction of Italian Baroque composers to teach Russian musicians -- and later, the product of later compositions that were informed by both Slavic and baroque music influences. It was a fascinating concert that I believe, given your clear interest, that you would have enjoyed. Anyway, the description for this video described the concert as a whole.

Beautiful. Thank you. I love this piece and it is so rare to hear it performed live in full. I sang it as a young man, and I have loved it ever since.

O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

My High School Choir performed this pieced back in the 1990s. you have done a superb job, we didn't have quite the orchestra, but it is just like I remembered it. Thanks for posting such a beautiful piece of music. Thanks and God bless.
