Great video and point David! I do think the 2 main points for wanting the session upgrades (just my opinion) is the extra takes, false starts, less edits and importantly the new mastering. In the classic series I’m sure I found many were spliced takes, so not always getting take by take and the full takes. I’m not at the point of wanting missing milliseconds of silent audio though 😂

I finally have all the 11 sessions sets in my collection .it took a little saving and looking around but all new and 4 of the older ones were same or less in price when they came out. I don't have any of the other 7"inch releases. Unfortunately. Great topic to adress these edits they do on the sets. Very annoying and 😡. Love the Channel and the great info you give and share. Thanks!

I think since you have the Sessions, you can probably skip the equivalent 7" sets, unless it's just for the collection.
@emjel-yi9eg
@emjel-yi9eg 2 күн бұрын
I think this is one of the main bone of contentions with "the Session Sets" and that is there is very little more over and above the takes that are on the 7" Classic albums. From memory, fans were complaining that for the Memphis ‘69 Sessions Set, that there was only around 18 minutes worth of recordings that were not on the three 7" Classic albums that covered the original albums. G I Blues is likely to be another one because there are 2 volumes of that within the 7" Classic Album series, so a Session Set for those recordings is not likely to offer good value for money for any unreleased offerings, and maybe that’s why FTD have not issued anything yet although I doubt feeling guilty about fleecing collectors will worry them.
@ElvisPresleyInJapan

This is very useful info. I have the 7" Memphis sets but not the Sessions. So that's one I can cross off my list, unless it falls into my lap cheaply. I have the MRS G. I. Blues set, so I'll need to look at the FTD version closely before committing to buying it. Thanks a lot.

Great video David, really enjoyed this one. The FTD session sets tend to be under controversy in the Elvis fandom being that, not only do the producers “edit” these sessions, but most of the session are claimed to be complete when in actuality they are not!!! There are, “boot” CD’s that contain material that ARE NOT presented on the FTD sets, and in some cases, vice versa. Thanks 😊.

I have the classic album releases, as well as all of the session sets and you have made a valid point. My problem with FTD on the session sets is their “need” to censor and edit dialogue that they feel the listener can’t handle, so to speak (ie: cursing, etc.) As someone who had many sessions sets on bootleg long before the advent of FTD, it irritates the hell out of me when I come across an instance of it. I’ve heard others complain about it, as well. ⚡️

I was scratching my head wondering why I didn't have California Holiday in my movie or record collection....Mr Google informed me the correct movie title was Spinout. For some unknown reason the Brits changed it to California Holiday. Wonder if that makes the LP of that name a rarity, seeing it would have only been produced in England?
@ElvisPresleyInJapan
@ElvisPresleyInJapan 7 күн бұрын
They called it California Holiday in other countries too, including Germany and Australia. I think when the movie title didn't make sense to overseas audiences, they changed the title. Very interesting subject. Indeed everything is relative. I didn't know about that and I like that, after the movie hit, he was even more recognised ⚡ Just imagine if he'd gone there as he wanted (Japan, Europe...) and imagine if that would've happened after TTWII... I think they would be talking about that till today, there would've been mangas, anime and a few statues over the cities in wich he had performed. Hotels and restaurante too. Maybe a Shinkansen... Maybe even a peanut-banana kit kat... Thank you for your work, I have to catch up with Sean's videos. And good Elvis accent there!😁

TTWII kicked off a new trend in Japan for package tours to the US to see Elvis live. I've got some of the travel agent flyers from that time. I might do a video on that topic one day. That's a great point about how Elvis might still be in the collective Japanese memory had he toured here. As it is, most people here don't know who he was. There is a statue, though. Peanut butter Kit-Kat - don't be giving them any crazy ideas. I bought a pumpkin Kit-Kat recently. Maybe they could do a banana sandwich one.

What great albums. Regarding "The Other Sides", I read an interview with someone, maybe one the Memphis Mafia, that when they pulled the clothes out for the swatches this person went in and retrieved some of them because they were historical, like one of the "68 Special suits. When I received the album for my 10th birthday I was convinced I had a gotten a piece of the jacket worn on Golden Records Vol. One LOL. As I got older I not only realized how ridiculous that thought was, but like you, I suspected it was probably just one of Parker's gimmicks. I also received a swatch from Parker's office after sending them a letter. Man, what a joyful moment that was for me!

Elvis gave his gold pen to him after signing the Aust contracts.Still has it today but got it modified. Saw Monkees 2 lp box sets from Japan. Glorious designs of the golden Japan age in vinyl releases. In the Elvis Worldwide releases in the bubble cd long box format you do see the clothes from Clambake and the executives trying them on. Hi Dave ,great video as usual ,I’ve viewed that sincerely Elvis channel it’s really good ,a think 1971 was a very productive year for EL ,he had quite a few hit singles OK not no 1s but he rarely seemed out of the top 20 in the UK,and in the US he was on top of the entertainment world ,it’s great to see what other parts of the world go for in relation to ELs career ,a know the Japanese prefer the later output 1970s ,a think in the UK it’s his early output that rules although speaking for my self av been getting into his later output ,a thing Sean from sincerely Elvis ,s take on it is 1970 THWII,1972 the on tour and Maddison square gardens tours ,and maybe 71 was overlooked or maybe overshadowed ,obviously not in Japan ,that’s my take on it anyway ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎸🎸🎸🎶

Hi, Tony. RCA certainly kept churning out the singles in the 70s, as they'd always done. I was a big charts fan back then, as a kid, but Elvis' 70s hits made no impact on me at all. I just don't recall any of them, until Suspicion in 1976, and that was an oldie, of course. We used to watch TOTP and Elvis could never appear, obviously, so his hits were accompanied by Pan's People's dancing. That may be another reason why the songs never caught my imagination. I loved Alvin Stardust, though, and he was an Elvis '68 Special rip-off. Sorry, Tony. Just taking a detour down memory lane 🤣

Fascinating stuff David, really enjoyed that. I hadn’t even considered how applying a geographical lens on a particular year may completely alter the perception of it's relative success. A note of caution concerning sweeping generalisations there methinks! As for that swatch, well, we know for certain that loads of clothing was strewn around Graceland being cut up and shipped out in boxes, because we have first hand accounts of it. Oddly enough though, the one you held up is the very same material I have framed with full authentication by Graceland, although they date it to his final tour, which made no sense at all to me. Thanks for the shout-out!
