The bakers wife is for the streets. It seemed so weird that they have her have an affair with one of the princes, shrug it off, and die. Then she sings over her husbands shoulder in the afterlife? Okay lol

I love both singers but I never liked filmed versions. I preferred live performances which are filmed. It's more visceral and spontaneous.

I am an Uber driver, and I usually play classical music in my car. Some time ago, I had an older passenger who lived in Cleveland & had a relationship with the Cleveland Orchestra back in the days after Szell. He told me that Szell drove a lot of musicians to drink with the way he controlled things. I've read a few stories, too.

This being more emotional than the climactic version of it in the movie is insane to me like it’s supposed to be more emotional on the big screen how did they mess it up?

Gracias

Szell, the penultimate manifestation of the articulate precise meticulous studious craftsman whose only fault is that he took technicality to an extreme and prioritized it over many other important aspects of music but that it just my opinion

The fight scene music at the beginning sounds like pirate fight music. It also sounds like something from Mozart’s Magic Flute. The slow, bittersweet chorus music at the end sounds like church music. It kinda sounds a little similar to Schubert’s Ave Maria.

The instrumental ballet-type music sounds very Debussy-esque, similar to La Mer and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. It also sounds very Homeward Bound-esque in the middle and ending parts. The background music for the squirrel and frog duet sounds both Homeward Bound-esque and Winnie the Pooh-esque, and so does the background music at the beginning of the song after that. And then, when the high strings come on, it starts to sounds very vintage 30’s-40’s Hollywood-esque.

The music for the cat duet sounds like something from an old vintage movie in the 30’s or 40’s, The flute trill for the nightingale part sounded a lot like a snippet from the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Symphony #6, the Pastoral Symphony. Also, the woman portraying the bat at the end is barking like a dog, LOL XD!

This film is totally unfair to Salieri. He was a very great musician. He was friends with Mozart. He helped him a lot financially. And, they had a mutual admiration for each other's music.

How many view do they have on Spotify? The point was made. It wasn't unfair - it proclaimed Salieri a genius. But just a generational genius, not one for all time. It makes it all the more poignant.

The final time Jon Vickers sang Peter Grimes at the Met -- was it the early 1980s? -- it was this production -- I saw all five performances. His performance was shattering every time. It was the peak of opera performance, and I've never heard or seen anything even come close. He is greatly missed.
