I put the rear window down about 2 inches this morning, and about 5 minutes later, heard a big "thunk," and looked back to see the window was all the way down. Using the up / down switch did no good. I pulled over and pushed the window back up with my hands, and tapped in two wooden shims to hold it closed. Does this sound like the regulator crapped out? When lifting the window up with my hands, I heard something drop down to the bottom of the door. Couldn't tell what it was. Thanks in advance for any help :-).

My passenger window started going slowly and today it stopped going up but It did go up after a while. Do I have to replace both driver and passenger side or just passenger side ? Not sure if they are both connected.

I'm getting ready to replace a failed window motor on the rear door on my daughter's 21 Escape. What type of screws were holding in the motor? You had to remove 3 to get the motor off. I couldn't tell from your video. Thanks!

You destroyed that vapor barrier which serves the function of keeping water out of the interior. Hopefully you replace with new. Usually, one removes it by curing the butyl rubber seal between the door and the barrier. This allows you to remove and reinstall it unscathed.

If my window stays up perfectly, is it enough to change motor and that's it?

I spent 3 hours today trying to remove the right rear door regulator from my 2009 Sonata. I have replaced front regulators without issues several times. All fasteners are removed. The regulator moves side to side about an inch and the edge all the way around is loose. All fasteners for the external door handle and lock are removed and that assembly moves about an inch. But when I get really serious trying to remove it it seems like it is fastened in the center somewhere. I’ve shone a powerful light behind it and can see nothing holding it back. Frustrated!!! Any suggestions? Id be very grateful. Peter.

Where did you buy the whole panel you replaced? I'm having trouble finding the whole assembly

“Doesn’t matter if rivets get stuck in the panel….” Best advice of all. Twice I’ve worked on those f-ing rivets just to realize I’d wasted a bunch of time. My regulator panel was very hard to get out due to the vertical crash brace. You are the ONLY resource that discusses the issues I mentioned above. I should mention my car is 2009 Sonata. Nothing about the rear door regulator for my car that I could stomach watching. Nothing worse than someone who their self is lost trying to help me get un-lost. FYI, I haven’t found a window or regulator that cannot be moved small distances by hand, replacing the need to reconnect power to line it up. Additionally, the crossed control cables must be a Santa Fe thing. That did not come up on a Sonata. Again, big thanks for your clarity, staying on topic, and knowing the job. I appreciate your style.

if the window is complete down, and I simply want to pull it back up to drive while I'm waiting for the part to come in, how the heck do I pull the window back up? I have the panel off, the motor for the regulator off and the gear box isn't stripped, but all the cables have come loose? but all I want is to temporarily get the window back up so I can drive in the cold weather!! please help!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I was told by the dealership that they couldn't just replace the window regulator because of having to do something with timing of the cable/window. Do you know anything about that, or can I just replace the regulator?

Could this cause my door too have no power at all I have too use the latch all the time for the passenger side it has no power what’s so ever no red light nothing

2011 is different it has a weird special clip on the left under the molding. I don’t know how to get that Werid clipd off.

I know it’s been a while since this video was posted, but when you go to buy a new window regulator assembly from GM it says “will need programming by automotive professional.” Is there any programming that actually needs to take place or is it plug and play like the video suggests?

How in your right mind do you think that this video would be helpful when you said I think there’s two screws down there I’m not sure it might be a 7/32 but you know what you’ll find out when you get into it. How is this helpful?

Changed mine today. Again thank you. Great help. Hardest part was trying not to break door clips when you pull them off. haha. Something always breaks.

This video might be enough for me to decide to pay someone else to do it. Depending on the fee, of course. I don't need a new regulator, I just need to reseat the window into the tracks.

2:50 how did it awesomely get mounted to the window around 2:50? The bolts connected the new regulator to the existing clips? Seems to easy might as well give it a go since shops around here are not cool. But mine the failure was a pop and now the motor/regulator goes up/down with scrapping noises and shizz probably more complicated with mine
