My son did this in roughly 12 hours (in a 24 hour time period with breaks). I asked him to write it down so he would know the exact time but when do kids ever listen lol. so this was his guess. (He's 16)

It's a fun set! LEGO made a couple of mistakes that I hope they fix - the display stand information has a mistake (that's why I didn't stick the sticker) - it says "Time to orbit: 3 minutes, 40 seconds", which would be incredibly fast (it's actually 8 minutes, 20 seconds). Also, one of the side notes in the build instructions says that the RS-25 engines provide the attachment point for the boosters, which is just wrong (the boosters attach to the core stage).

Your videos are the best Chris! Hopefully you still have room to keep building and putting out these Timelapse’s. I am currently building the a frame cabin! Amazing set

Just 3 hrs to build !! - I'm bloody slow compared to that but the enjoyment of putting any Lego model together is magic. When whatever I am building is almost done, I have a really disappointing feeling as it'll be all finished and I can't carry on building it anymore. BUGGER!! - Nothing for it except I'll just have to go out and buy another one.
@lego-redhat10 ай бұрын
Heh, same! I do go too fast and make mistakes sometimes (just one in this one), but it's because I enjoy it and get going and don't want to slow down.

How do these videos get a couple likes when he’s spending hours working on this, yet a person dancing on camera gets millions? Well, he must enjoy it, so it must not really be worth the video.

Heh, time-lapse is great! I don't think anybody would be very interested in a 3 hour long video of the real build. :) This build did still go pretty quick though, over 11 pieces per minute.

Chris, I love your content and Timelapse videos. Any chance you will be building Rivendell in the future?
@lego-redhat10 ай бұрын
Thanks! While the Rivendell set looks great, it doesn't fit with any of my existing themes, and I don't think I have display space to start a new theme (I don't REALLY have display space for the sets I build!). :) I enjoy building the big sets - I need to find someone who enjoys displaying them but not building and will let me build them!

How much does that cost
@lego-redhat11 ай бұрын
I tend to get these big sets on "release day" at LEGO.com, so that's full retail plus tax (think this one was about $600).

Since it's sped up/time-lapse, I don't typically even record an audio track while I build (and I also don't usually play any music or anything while I build). I don't know what I'd say if I tried to add a voice-over...

I’ve always wanted this set! For some reason I just randomly started to like sets with lots of pieces! The biggest I have is probably the Lego Taj Mahal. I’m planing on getting the Titanic set this Christmas even though I’m only 9.

Good luck! I'm kind of the same way, I just really enjoy building the sets with lots of pieces. And they didn't have sets this big when I was 9 (although I started with LEGO when I was about 4-5 I think), so you're lucky. :)

Is it heavy? It doesn't look like the kind of model you can move around regularly.
@lego-redhat Жыл бұрын
I estimate it weighs almost 20 pounds. Also, you must pick it up in a pretty specific way to avoid breaking it (the last steps of the instructions are "how to lift"). I do have to move it, the Star Destroyer, the AT-AT, and now the X-Wing UCS sets from time to time though, because they are typically on display on the table I use for LEGO building (seen in most of my other videos with the red tablecloth).

@lego-redhat Жыл бұрын
Three and a half hours... it was a quick build really. The wings were each slightly different, but once I did one, the other three went fast. I made one mistake that barely shows up in the time-lapse video, had one piece backwards that kept the nose from going on all the way (you can briefly see me take the nose off and put it back).
@OffBeatLondon101 Жыл бұрын
The video was so fast I didn't notice the mistake. I've just finished building Thors hammer, really solid model. You should try that but its only about 2 hours to build so would be a short video. Love the videos. Next up for me is the back to the future Delorean.

I get that. I actually debating buying/building this set for a while, in part because of that. But... anything built to scale would be microscopic (the set is about 1:1460 scale), and I don't like the nowhere-close-to-scale rooms on the Death Star, so not really sure what else they could do. Plus - you need access to the "backbone" to pick it up and move it around.

why is the camera shaking throughout the whole video, unless the shutter is that heavy?
@lego-redhat Жыл бұрын
It's an old cell phone on a cheap tripod+mount, with a power cord hanging so the battery doesn't go dead. At regular speed, it's not really noticeable, it only shows up on the time-lapse. I suspect it's from the hanging power cord shifting, maybe as the heat/air conditioner fan turns on and off.

Yes, I use the official LEGO Builder app on an Android tablet. It's the same instructions as included in the box and PDFs available on LEGO's website (although the PDF/app instructions do get updates sometimes). I just find it easier to not have to hold pages open and such, plus the tablet takes up less table space (especially important with the big sets!). I can also zoom in to check details.
