Love the way you explain things and you have a nice voice. Some people have good info but I can’t stand listening to them .

Back in the 70s and 80s California had dozens of roller rinks all over the place with competitive skating clubs. Its so sad that most ended up closing never to return or be replaced. Ive only been to skateland Northridge once, but I still feel for the regulars there. When a skater loses a rink, there are stages you go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. No come to think of it there's never acceptance. So sad 😭

My fave spin instructor! So I've been looking for forward inside edge spin help .. is there no such thing? I can't seem to find any tutorials on them? Edit: ok you showed a little bit in the very beginning of this video I will keep looking
@appelusa2 ай бұрын
Aw thanks for the feedback! forward inside spins are hard. Most people lean their whole body inside and then can’t hold their other leg up. So key is staying centered without letting the top of your head, shoulders or hips lean towards the inside, only the foot presses while torso merely rotated Ill look into making a video :)

I am still trying to learn spins. I'm noticing that if I pull in with the "open book" the spin only lasts as long as the open book does and then I automatically just stop spinning. So, in other words, I can't pull in, and keep the spin going and furthermore, I can't go from standing still, into a spin. The spin is my favorite part too. You can use it to show off. I'll keep playing around with it, but to have an idea of the technique involved, is helpful. Like the footwork.

It’s a personal preference. Cushions also make a difference (and quality of boots and plates!). But they should have some give!

You are a great teacher and thanks for breaking these things down. I am 54 years old and have got back into skating. I practically lived on skates through my childhood, teenage years and well into adulthood. Then life got in the way and I have not skated on quads or blades (both) for over 20 years. Now its like my survival instinct has taken over and I cannot believe I used to go down long steep hills both forward and backward and do all the various slides, stops and weave through traffic on my rollerblades. Skate parks and rinks are very rare, nothing like the 70's and 80's used to be. On a side note.... In this day in age... I guess it's better that you make the change in "syntax" for the names of these skate moves otherwise you will have a loud, small group of people canceling you or calling you racist or homophobe or whatever else because people are so easily offended. Strangely enough, I am native and those terms are not offensive to me. I am not Mohawk or Choctaw those are the names of tribes/nations, not dance moves as you may have been told on Instagram or wherever. I am not a mouthpiece of natives in particular but things have gotten a little carried away by a few overly sensitive types. There is a difference between being called a slur and a name of a skate maneuver which should present no offense. Keep up the great work. I wish you continued success.
@appelusa Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Jay for the feedback and connect! There’s a point I stopped throwing myself into the air and rotating 2-3 turns and landing on one foot 😆 spins have always been my strong point. There was an article or book that came out which gave the history of the names of ice skating maneuvers. It had to do with native people being brought to the UK to perform for the royals. The ice skaters began using the names for the dances (so the reference said) for their ice skating moves since they looked similar. You could say that is cultural appropriation. As long, perhaps, as the credit goes to where the names are taken from and with respect it could be ok. You could say we live in a hyper sensitive society, but out of respect for the Native American tribes probably best to change the names. The ice organizations already had. I did get backlash a few times trying to post videos on this topic so trying to be respectful and neutral 🙏🏼

I think the Edea boots are lighter, there is more material in the GH boots. I don’t have exact weight specifications however, just by observation and experience wearing

@@appelusaSorry, can I just ask you one question, did you use different softer cushions for the back wheels on the skate that spins or keep the original cushions but loosened them a bit? Thanks again.
@appelusa Жыл бұрын
@@randomguy4820 I have cushions for my body weight. It doesn’t hurt to try different cushions if you’re having a hard time pressing. But I do loosen the truck for the spins appropriately. Obviously if they are loose and you are still having a hard time after pressing with all your night it might be a cushion issue

re: T-stop on a downward slope, I feel like my front facing wheel continues to roll forward and I don't stop, if anything I can't keep my feet together and the back dragging foot trips me.
@appelusa Жыл бұрын
Hi! T stops don’t work very well on a downward slope. Dragging stopper may work if it’s a small decline. Slogan could also work to slow you down. But nothing will make you stop completely unless you turn backwards and stop with your stoppers.
