Screens are the best offense. Switching is the best way to defend it. It's really unfortunate but big slow guys lose too. You gotta guard a minimum of 3 positions and little guys can't even guard Booker.

Tbh I was thinking this when I was watching Cole Anthony play yesterday. He has a lot of hustle on defense but on offense, he struggles as hes too damn short and doesn't have a lot of experience. Tbf, the magic has too many players that can score due to their size and skill set. Cole does great with handling the ball most of the time and does well with play making. I swear he be better in another era.

I think there’s something to the quickness, being able to maneuver in tight corners, explosiveness, and stamina that is a unique advantage to smaller players that taller players can’t match. And also taller players are more prone to injury. I can’t imagine a 6’10 player being able to run around off the ball like Curry does all game.

A factor you missed is that initially when shooting became important there were less tall players that could shoot at a high level. Because of this revolution taller players coming in had focused more and more on shooting to the point where you get 6ft8 players shooting the same as smaller guards, making the smaller guys obsolete. Sadly unless there are perennial all star small guards coming in, chances are small guards are gone for good basically.

So Reed Sheppard was officially measured under 6’2”. I want to say 6’1.5.” I also like what Yukon for Memphis is doing. The short guard has to be an elite shooter and be elite in space and in creating spacing. Great video though.

I'm a New Zealander who has followed NFL since 1991. The real reason it's difficult to grow the international fan base is that the game is too slow. There is too much dead viewing time between plays. That's the biggest objection from most Kiwis I've spoken to about the sport. They usually erroneously claim that rugby is "non-stop action."

I’ve always looked at the padding in American football like the introduction of gloves into boxing, yeah bare knuckle boxing and rugby look more savage, but the lack of protection forces you to soften your punches or tackles just so you don’t hurt yourself.

Rugby (all forms) is an aerobic, low-to-low/mid-strategy sport while american football his an anaerobic, extremely-high-strategy sport. Comparing the two just because both happen to have non-round balls and involve going from one end of the field to another is the height of idiocy. They're utterly different. To a rugby fan whose other "known sports" are the almost entirely strategy-less soccer and the very problematic cricket, rugby understandably seems like a better option because it retains the aerobic qualities of soccer while adding a small bit of strategy interest. To an american football fan who understands the game, rugby, while not entirely unentertaining, generally seems to lose the best parts of american football (the deep strategy and tactics and also the more amazing plays caused by its anaerrobic nature) all for the sake of aerobic "continuous" play - a tradeoff that seems pointless. And if you're thinking of responding telling me that "rugby has deep strategy", then save yourself the trouble - all you are advertising is that you don't know the first thing about american football (and will likely rely on old fall-backs about its stop-start nature or the pads or something). as i said, the only real reason why anybody would think such an absurdity is if their basic reference is soccer.

Interesting video. I'm not interested in football 7s. There's rugby 7s. And while rugby 7s has some different strategy from 15s, it's still true to the game. Football is based on physical contact in set pieces from the line of scrimmage that end in a tackle. That's not why you like rugby

The main problem American Football is not getting viewing figures in Europe after decades of trying is that the games take too long to complete and the constant start-stop nature of it. You need to get it more free flowing to increase it's appeal in Europe.

The problem with American football is that there's very little continuous play. Plays usually last 10-15s and then there's a long break. Also, players are so specialised to just one or two skills, with wholesale changes when attack turns to defence. I find it utterly tedious. Rugby sevens is great fun with long passages of unbroken play. I love the full fat form of Rugby Union with 15 players, as well as Rugby League.

I'm from a rugby playing background (plaeyd both codes and 7's), I like your idea. International 7's isn't a seperate sport, many of the players go on to play the full team game for their country and 7' is seen as a very good trainging ground, especially for the 3/4's and backs - the fast guys on the team. If you wanted to implement a 7's NFL version you may need to look at the tackling rules in rugby. 👍
