Good to see new content on your channel (even if not Hockey Bones ;-) The 90's were my favorite era of hockey, which likely because that was when I became interested in the sport. Also, because of rivalries like Detroit/Colorado made it so fun to watch. I'm going to have to start a season now on Action PC.

@@mynameismud-qd9vu I feel bad. I wish I did. It's not a knock on the game being too long. There are other even longer games that are also reputably good. But when in the mood for season replays, and a desire to progress through them at a certain rate, faster-playing games lend themselves to the task and more feasibly fit into the schedule.

Okay, this Pens fan has to call you out here. :-) Montreal most deserving? Perhaps. They did win an insane amount of overtime games in that season's playoffs. However, I will die on the hill that if the Pens had Washington in the second round instead of the Isles, they would have three-peated. As good as Pittsburgh was, they simply did not match up well against the Islanders that season. I said back then the Isles were the one team I did not want to see the Pens play in the playoffs. My friends thought I was nuts. The rest is history. Nice job on the video. I'll have to go back through your archives to learn how to play that game again. LOL

GREAT SETUP and PRESENTATION ... Quick question ... When a GOALIE is INJURED or when PULLING THE GOAL OR what do you do when the SKILLS are WEAKENED by 1 LEVEL? Do you ADD or TAKE AWAY A FACE SUITE from the GOALIE or DEFENSE? In the example, it says to reduce the level from a C to a D? I don't see that?
@HockeyUnreal6 күн бұрын
For an injured goalie that stays in the game, I'd deduct a level from the goalie, not the team defense (though one could argue the goalie's part of the team defense). I think C to D might change from season to season. If you're using seasons created by Michael, there should be a key at the top of each sheet and bundle of four teams. For pulling a goalie, I count any shot that the shorthanded team gets to the net as a goal.

@@HockeyUnreal -- it was a feature on the default video editing program on my old laptop which I believe was Windows 7. My current laptop is Windows 10 and I hate the video program that came with it. The previous one was easy and intuitive but they just can't leave well enough alone. So if you upload a video directly from your phone or video camera to KZbin, there's no means to add text and other bells and whistles. If you upload it to some video editing program first, then you can tweak it and upload it to KZbin. Thank you, pal! Just the guy I was hoping to see here. Even with multiple ongoing projects, some that sadly have been neglected of late, this has me super hungry to request Michael Mitchell to make the 1949-50 NHL season for DoC. These were fun, dramatic games. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back nailbiters! Other than for a different end outcome, it's hard to ask for better from a playoff series than this. And I'll have to see what I can do about what you said at the end. ;) Furthermore, talk about "Strange Magic" yet again. One of the storylines during the regular season, reported by me multiple times on Delphi, was that sophomore and secondary scoring for Detroit, Max McNab, did not have a goal all season long until very late into the regular season. McNab finished with just 3 goals in my regular season replay (10 in real life, and any double digits was okay secondary scoring in a low-scoring era and 60-game season).

Thank you for watching, and Happy New Year!! I agree they're a lot of fun to play! Blue Zone is another I could have included in the category that includes Stone Cold and Shoot-Out when I was talking about faster playing games near the end of the game 1 video. They're all similar in length. DoC and Mike's come at in just under that, at a similar, lesser amount of time to play a complete game (though Mike's could be faster if you just roll for goals and a team score and not goal scorers).

Thank you! Likewise :) I was thinking of you just a little earlier, wondering if you'd reach out and hoping you would. The Habs may be "due" but the Red Wings were the best team in the regular season, both in real life and in my replay, and as us replayers know, those Presidents' Trophy winning teams (though the trophy itself didn't come into existence until 1985-86) are a lot harder to defeat and eliminate on the tabletop. ;)

I love your video and the game play ... I am very interested in this game based on your videos ... but I'm still trying to figure out the game and why you are flipping 2 or 3 cards before looking at a result. GREAT JOB!!!
@HockeyUnreal19 күн бұрын
Thank you! Most sequences use four cards, though some sequences can use five or even six cards (and if a sequence ends in a goal then an additional card may be flipped for assists; there's also additional flips for possible injuries, but I normally don't play this game with injuries, so I forget how exactly they work). A sequence begins under the assist column (card flip no. 1) with a player trying to set someone else up (possibly even himself) for a chance to get a goal. If this set up attempt (card flip no. 2) fails, 2 more cards are "burned" to end the sequence. That's probably what you're seeing when you see or 3 cards flipped before looking at a result (3 cards flipped is probably that the puck has gone to a 'team' player on either side, requiring an extra flip to determine the player involved in the play, and if the assist/set up attempt fails after that, 2 more cards are burned to complete the sequence (to "cancel out" the goal player and that player's attempt, I guess)). Keep in mind that I hadn't played this game in months prior to making this video, but I did watch through it myself last night after uploading it and couldn't find any mistakes (but it was late and I was tired so it's possible there are some).

Thank you for the kind words. Even though I've not made videos in a while, I still have an interest in doing them but it's become harder to find the time and of course if I'm not setting aside time to do it actively then I'm rusty, so it takes even more time to get back into the swing of things. I just use a standing tripod and whatever phone camera I have at the time (presently it's an S23 (Samsung) but I think this video might have been recorded with my previous phone). Just a basic setup. I think Baseball Demos has a similar setup. I just keep it simple like he does.

I'm glad you found your way back to this. It's probably still a really underrated hockey game (in my opinion) and one I would have played a few times over the past couple of days while away on a holiday mini trip, but I couldn't get the deck of cards app I like to use on my phone to work and it discouraged me from playing altogether (next time I'll bring an offline, manual deck). Not knocking Shoot-Out or Stone Cold, but a game of DoC can be played in about half the time with twice the roster interaction (actually about 4-8X the roster interaction). Mind you it doesn't have penalties and doesn't account for home-away advantage/disadvantage as markedly as the above two games, so it's really a matter of being different and neither better nor worse. Mike Owens's Quick-Play Pro Hockey is actually a game more comparable to DoC, in terms of playing time, but it uses dice over cards and also doesn't normally interact with players on a roster until after a goal is scored, but it's another great game to play if you want to play a fast game that still progresses through periods without being slowed down by penalties.
