When you say poly ,do you mean polyester spray filler or two pack polyurethane primer ? I start off with epoxy then hand applied fillers like Upol D and Dolphin glaze .Then another single coat of epoxy followed by spray polyester ,then two pack polyurethane primer after the blocked off polyester primer .If i sand through to bare metal i always use epoxy on these areas first before anymore primers .After the polyurethane primer obviously top coats of solvent basecoat and two pack clear . A old van like that i mists epoxy primer on the bare metal and repairs then i mix two pack polyurethane primer and use a sponge radiator roller or brush to apply it to just the repairs (upto 4 thick coats) .You get a really good build up just where you need it .I block it down with 150 and then reprime with a spray gun again with two pack polyurethane primer .As you said a direct gloss 2K on the van would of been more economical and easier .

Haha, actually it isn't that bad from that front... only really get the colour pop when the clear goes on! But.... horrendous application process to master, it isn't what we're used to now with the waterbased! Rather not do one again 😂

Thanks mate! Was originally black I believe... then resprayed poorly in a very very bright red.... now into a much darker shade, based on an old alfa romeo colour but tinted in house at the customers request 😊

Kevs van looks epic guys and the Bristol is looking damn fine , you have done a lot of work with it can’t wait to see that in colour next week , can I just ask what do you use on surface rust /rust scabs to convert or treat it with , I have a mk2 escort that’s getting ready to paint soon and just wondered the experts you are what you use ? Ahh I'll be honest mate, we don't really... 😕 on the rare occasions I have to deal with things like this, my advice is always, if you can't remove rust 100%, it will sadly 100% come back... so aggressive grind out to start and see where you're at followed by an epoxy. But, more often than not it really needs cutting out for the best longevity. Unsure if the rust converters really work as well as they're advertised, who knows!
