We use this principal with many other things that we do, so it makes sense that it would work in fly fishing as well. If you need to toss a sandwich baggie, say, up to a guy that's on a roof. You can not toss that baggie by itself, not enough weight and too air resistant. Take that same baggie, put a couple of pebbles in it, and you can shoot that baggie, right up to the guy on the roof who needs the baggie. (Just an example)😂😂😂 Now, back to fly fishing, the same applies. Add weight to the fly, and you can cast it. Now, how does the fly act in the water? Just something you have to test until you get it to swim or suspend how you want. Great info...!!

When something is perfect, it is impossible to improve perfection. We can change materials, color, shade, eyes, and eye placement. But the overall design...perfect. the only way to improve upon it is to give it a heartbeat!!😂😂😂😂😂

This is a great playlist. I love the way these flies fish, even though half the time I make a mistake in the process…lol. I’m only 4 in though so I’m a few away from doing from memory. These have really done an awesome job on Ohio pike so far. Thanks for sharing these videos!

Well done gunner, question depending on the species that you’re going for, you want a stinger hook then the double shank and you might have just mentioned it. Well done though beautiful fish

Hi Gunner! Where did you get your junglecock feathers from? I can't find them except for on Amazon at ridiculous prices for just a few feathers? Great video! Bitchen!
@Gunnar_Brammer25 күн бұрын
Had a friend send me some "B" quality feathers - I've never purchased them either. It's a lot of $$$ for style points! The fake stuff is okay...but I am totally good with fishing naked flies (no eyes). Sticker eyes with Zap Goo is likely the best alternative, if you can deal with some head weight from the plastic - Posted Dome eyes with the posts cut short with Zap Goo work great in Bucktail.

I've watched a bunch of your videos over a few years, but somehow missed the 4wt Chronicles with these pheasant feather patterns. After all the amazing and sometimes rather complex flies you've shown us, I was really surprised with this series. I didn't know you had it in ya :). I think it's great that you showed folks how they can purchase a simple pheasant skin and make some amazingly effective flies with it in very short order. Then showing us how to fish them was truly the "bonus round". Thanks, Gunnar. You're one of the finest and most innovative fly tiers...and best instructors I've had the pleasure to watch here on KZbin. Love your enthusiasm .

Gunnar, it's been about three years since you made this video. Have you had any luck catching a muskie with this pattern yet? I never ended up tying one myself, but I've used the techniques you discussed in this video on other patterns. I'm considering tying this one now, but I’m curious how it has fished for you over the past couple of years.

The best part of a two hander not Spey mainly over head like a tnt exocett surf use 12 weight obs..you can throw a 8 inch fly and it feels like you’re throwing a Wooley bugger. Another to mention is you still have to let the line unroll to gain hi line speed

Have you worked out a hook + wire + lead weight vs fly length relationship for this fly style? I would call it the Brammer relationship. Tie this fly style in 4, 8, 12, 14 on mono with no hooks, then add weight 1 gram at a time to the fly and test it. Measure the distance you can cast with each fly length and weight. For each fly length you should find a sweet spot for amount of weight for cast ability and distance. Graph the results so we can see if the relationship is linear or curved. This relationship could be used by all fly tiers who cast bulky large flies to know how much weight needs to be in the hook+lead+wire once they know how long they want the fly.
