In 80s and 90s, even though Hong Kong is British colony at the time, UK did not welcome Hong Kong immigration. It is very hard to immigrate to UK. Canada and Australia is the easiest place for Hong Konger to get investment visas. However in the second wave of Hong Konger leaving Hong Kong starting from 2019, UK becomes the first choice for immigration due to the ease of getting a BNO visa.

We were just there on both islands. An exceptional meal at Le Select to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Interesting shopping, best baguette! We took our vintage campervan and found lots of spots to park for the night on both islands. St. Pierre has formal FREE RV parking, along with dump facilities and piped drinking water. Although costly to take the campervan on the ferries, cheaper than hotel and restaurant food for 9 days. You have to buy auto insurance, which is about 150 Euros, it is good for 30 days. Would love to go again and spend several weeks.

I always saw that small Island on the chart with (France) next to it. It always seemed strange and I thought maybe it was a charting error. Richmond, in my opinion, was a scam...let me explain: the local Canadians took the "worst" of land, next to the airport and filled w/ industrial sites (likely polluted), built a subway to entice growth strictly to the dumb FOB Chinese who did not know better. Compared to the growth in Burnaby (which was my favorite pick during 2003/2004 for a future city outside of the city), Richmond became just an overpriced scam. Air quality is not as good compared to rest of Vanc metro. Only thing Richmond has going for it, easy transport, but in life, one has to look at everything in its entirety. Old Chinatown outside of Vancouver metro is adjacent to the homeless camps currently due to proximity to the drug rehab centers deliberately placed next to ChinaTown!!!! That was the 1st scam against the original Chinese immigrants who weren't political, and just trying to make a living. Richmond is the 2nd scam, turning "junk land" into supposed "gold land"...sheesh..

Vancouver needs to be ashamed of its road system. The entire city has 1 major highway. That's it! Just 1!!!!. Then, most of the major local roads has no left turn lanes. If one car wants to make a left....well, you wait. And if you think the city must have great public transportation system...nope. Not even a subway system, and barely has a light rail. The Chinatown in downtown should be called Homeless Town. It's pitiful!

My mother grew up in the city of Vancouver, in different neighbourhoods, in the 60's to the early 70's. In her school pictures, nearly all the students were White with a only a few East Asians and Amerindians. Vancouver only really started to become noticeably Chinese in the 80's.
