I flew in the high Canadian arctic for several years before getting a corporate job with Alcan Aluminum out of Montreal, flying a DH125 business jet. Loved flying in the arctic and I loved flying corporate. Then I was hired by Air Canada. Air Canada introduced me to discipline. I became a serious, safe, disciplined pilot at Air Canada and flew with them for years. Eventually I moved to the United States, became a U.S. citizen and was recruited to fly for the New York Air National Guard part time. This introduced me to a new kind of discipline; where flying was secondary to the actual mission of air superiority and killing the enemy. Ideally, arctic and bush pilots would be more disciplined. Good corporate pilots often come from the military, not from the bush or the arctic as I did. Good corporate pilots are disciplined, but I witnessed many who were very undisciplined while I was with Alcan. Ughhh. Sorry to say, but true.

As a 737 Captain it's completely normal to use speed brakes without flaps. Can't use flaps above FL200 (limitation) on the 737 but you can pop the boards from FL410 right down to 1000 AFL. In fact, if the flaps are 40 on the MAX, you can't use speed brakes at all. So not sure what the real issue with the flaps/speed brakes are. Is the 777 different? If so, is it a stretch to understand that the two planes may not have the same procedures and that it should not take that much brain power to understand this?

Do they make ejection seat systems for civilian aircraft at all?
@MajorCaliber
@MajorCaliber 4 ай бұрын
No. Too many explosives and solid-fuel rocket motors involved. Plus you have to wear a helmet w/ visor, flame-retardant flight suit, and jump-rated boots, while everyone wants to fly in a T-shirt and sneakers. Ejecting is almost as dangerous as crashing, and it's not a panacea.
@fox2102

@@MajorCaliber I know a lot of the L-39 guys deactivate their seats for this reason. I know more modern seats are a bit safer but probably not a lot of demand in the civilian market compared to BRS systems

Something I've noticed from the marketing is at certain times air racing gives the appearance of a high tech racing sport like F1. Other times it looks like a non-profit charity event (asking for donations and the like). Technically is a non-profit. But I wonder if it wouldn't be better to fully commit to one style of business versus kind of playing both sides.
@RenegadeAV8R
@RenegadeAV8R 5 ай бұрын
thanks for your comment @tbonetbl. I get it. The event is such a huge undertaking for just one event a year. There are so many obstacles to put on the one event that unless we can get it in front of more people, the sponsors just are not rushing forward with tons of cash. I am grateful that there are people still willing to fight to keep the races alive. Very open to new ideas, new venues and new opportunities.

Dave, curious why you showed KTRK R/W 11 instead of 20 which has lower mins, but the shorter runway. I shot the 20 approach the day after and it’s very difficult to get down if you’re not at approach speed and configured for landing. I know you weren’t commenting on what happened, but being very fast during approach is time go miss to RNO just on that alone.

VLOG style is pretty much selfie video format with occasional scenery shots, but people are interested in who you two are, and will be more interested once they understand the people behind the channel.
