Not the best lessons for beginners, you got notes written above and below the staff for beginners to try and duplicate. Beginners for the most part are just trying to get a sound out of the horn. And this video has them buzzing the leadpipe? How about them getting familiar with what the actual sound of the pitch of a note before buzzing the leadpipe. Sorry but this video is not geared for beginning kids.

Unfortunately the Rotary lost popularity in the world wars, because of association with Germany/Austria. The piston, from france/England/Russia was copied and mass produced in USA for the military bands and so we have the dominance of the piston in the west, where of course, jazz developed.

Hi Erik from Denmark ! So the basic idea is not to make the lips smaller while keeping the air steady but the opposite. Keep the lips steady not bigger not smaller, the same and let the air PRESSURE do the work. You might like to check out the " L Exersize" video for trumpet - this will help you find how much air to use when going up or getting louder...Good luck on your journey. Cheers Pete

@TresMamboMusicSchool
@TresMamboMusicSchool Жыл бұрын
@@dktrumpet65 That is not correct. If the hole IS the same and you blow harder the note must go up because pressure is defined as force/area. ONLY if the hole is getting bigger AND you are blowing more can the note get louder because the pressure is staying the same but the FLOW is increasing. So you might THINK you are keeping it the same but you cant be. So that is what the L exercise is all about.... a simple way to develop your air to make the pitch go up or get louder or any combination of the two all controlled by the ear hearing a just noticeable increase in volume...Good luck and let us all know how you get on. The fundamental frequency is not important, its just a convenience. Interesting review! I will definitely check out the mouthpiece video, too. In my opinion the short leadpipe is the main design flaw of common rotary trumpets. However, the different tone characteristics give them some meaning. I have one with a water key on the lower side of the tubing and don’t like it, because I don’t reach it with my pinkie. I agree that good rotary valves are an advantage for faster passages. Unfortunately, up to now that was expensive. And cleaning these is difficult, I‘ve never done that myself.

It is not FALSE that the lips control pitch. The pressure can vary with dynamics on a constant pitch. Easily disproving your premise.
@TresMamboMusicSchool
@TresMamboMusicSchool 3 жыл бұрын
The lips can influence a pitch, if need be. We do this for tuning, vibrato, tone color etc but they don't "make the pitch" No amount of lip will manifest a note if the minimum air pressure for that note is not provided. This is not a premise it is the science of the matter. Read the paper and speak to that if you can. If science is not your thing then think about an airplane. It has a "stall speed" below which it falls out of the sky. It can fly faster than stall speed sure and the wings like the lips can influence the result but the wings of a plane do not "make" the flight - like a bird by flapping do they? its the air pressure under the wing, due to its forward motion, that keeps the plane flying. So it is with the trumpet players lips. The aerodynamic forces keep the lip in motion. Hence if you want to play and improve on the trumpet focus on the air pressure before anything else. Cheers Pete
@darryljones9208
@darryljones9208 3 жыл бұрын
@@TresMamboMusicSchool this does not preclude lip posture. And lip posture 100 percent controls pitch. Pressure applied then varies for the required dynamic. One can play varied pitches with a contant Pressure. Which also disproves your premise. Air pressure does provide the energy density. And with flow the air power required for sound power. But the lip posture controls the pitch played.
@TresMamboMusicSchool
@TresMamboMusicSchool 3 жыл бұрын
@@darryljones9208 So if you claim that you can play various pitches while keeping the pressure constant ...LETS SEE IT, repeat my experiments with the CPAP machine providing a fixed pressure and lets see you play more than one pitch on a fixed pressure. Post your video and let the world see the proof, that is how science is done....
@darryljones9208
@darryljones9208 3 жыл бұрын
@@TresMamboMusicSchool buzzing a mouthpiece into a CPAP machine is not remotely the same as playing the trumpet. One must simply measure the air pressure in the oral space while playing. The embouchure self resistance does increase with range, reducing efficiency and requiring more energy input but there is not a unique pressure for any note.
@TresMamboMusicSchool
@TresMamboMusicSchool 3 жыл бұрын
@@darryljones9208 So have you even read Neville Fletcher's paper then? because that is EXACTLY the case and this is indeed his experimental design....There is a minimum pressure value for every note starting out at about 1.5kpa for a bottom C that rises with respect to pitch. This was found to be independent of players or their skill levels. I'm happy to have a conversation but look at all the research first before you make any more comments.

@TresMamboMusicSchool
@TresMamboMusicSchool 4 жыл бұрын
@@gauthierostervall4849 No not possible. As I mentioned in the video the "trumpet" starts out as straight tube. Which has a series but not a harmonic one something near - a 9th, a minor 6th, a fourth etc - this is what you play and hear when you blow the pipe - something like E, F, D, G'', C''' etc. By ADDING the bell the the first two are forced into something like an octave the next into a fifth and then next into an actual 4th in tune with the others. This gives you Pedal + C G C. The tones above this a forced into sort of harmonic series but usual way sharp of the first three - this is the job of the MPC ...to LOWER 4,5,6,7,8...to make the whole series harmonic AND in tune. When we blow the pipe to warm up - the pitch is irrelevant only the sound. It DOES make sense however to find a mpc that is the LOUDEST on the pipe as this will give you loudest high notes, but the tuning is for the complete system. Hope that helps, Cheers Pete

Partly this is an exercise in semantics, no?? Because obviously the sound itself results from lips vibrating. Therefore, the change in pitch due to air pressure depends on the embouchure remaining static, give or take the change for a couple semitones. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice analysis but I think in line with what I was taught 40 years ago... the ability to maintain your embouchure through variable and sometimes widely rapidly changing air pressure is a matter of strength and control.
