definitely like the pattern, but you can't file for a IGFA record on a fly/lure that doesn't have a hook, wouldn't that be some luck, catch state/world record fish only to have it not count because you didnt' use a hook, even fit was caught on the rope portion? Also, what if another fish hits it? Definitely better to tie it on a hook still IMO.

Did y'all go clockwise or counter-clock? And how were the mosquitos? I've heard they can be pretty overwhelming out there. Thanks!
@matthawkins2454 Жыл бұрын
We went counter-clockwise! Getting over the passes each day was pretty brutal but I packed too heavy! The mosquitoes were surprisingly not bad at all. It was pretty chilly at night and this was in late September. I could see mosquitoes and maybe black flies being bad in the summer though.

The kind of thing that keep me from quitting the sport. My eyes are horrible. I used to have trouble only with 6X or 7X. Now I'm struggling with 4X and 5X. Another reason to love steelhead fishing. Everything is bigger and easier to see.

I can relate in a huge way!! The eyes don't work like they used to AND dexterity is almost non existent not to mention almost cutting off one of my thumbs with a circular saw ... totally numb tip so I agree on the helpfulness of this video and your comment

Nice insttuctioal vid. Nice job! Just a little tip to add that I learned when doing the double or triple surgeons w the forceps, it does make a difference which direction you make your first loop and hold in your fingers. If you then use your forceps and make your turns in the opposite direction, you are unknowingly removing one rotation. Turns a triple surgeons into just a double surgeons knot.

Theres no hook
@matthawkins24547 жыл бұрын
The gar's teeth get tangled in the rope so there's no need for a hook! Their mouths are so bony anyway that it's near impossible to use a hook.

great fly and nice tutorial that craw dub is some nice bushy stuff! I know a guy out here on the West Coast that has adapted this fly for Saltwater Bass. He uses an EP streamer brush instead of a dubbing loop and I've been tying this fly ever since he introduced it to me... We have 3 major species of saltwater bass in Southern CA and I've caught them all on this fly. While most of my fly fishing is done in the salt I've recently taken an interest in targeting smallies on some local rivers and I also sight fish carp in urban waterways and rivers and wanted to know how to tie this fly using the traditional materials and you nailed it :D thanks.

Thank you very much! I have an updated version/video of the fly. I changed some materials around that work much better in my opinion. Check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6uXh3ijgaajm7M

Hey man, I am SO sorry I am just now getting back to you on this. I know its been 9 months. I just have never checked these messages. Red, purple and brown are the best colors to tie these in, or at least that is what I have had the most luck with. Check out myother new videos and I promise to be much faster at replying. Also check out www.localflyshop.com, use localflyshop10 to get 10% off. THanks so much for your interest! please keep watching, as I am updating with a new fly every week! --Matt Hawkins

Great looking pattern should work for both SM & LMB. Could this be classed as a Clouser variation?
