I just found your channel, your the first person I have found with the same Sweater machine as me (or at least super similar) and I am a very visual learner, so thank you for making these videos you have on your channel. I just got this machine about 3 days ago and I am loving it, and I need to make a hat here soon, so Im gonna watch your stuff to learn more about all of this 😊

How can I do all this without the cards?
@daviemac9925Ай бұрын
Didn't you get them with the machine? You can use a Ruler if you don't have cards. To get them to forward working position, push your needles back until the open latches rest on the cast on elastic.

Thankyou very much for your videos David - I got myself a Bond Incredible Sweater Machine second hand at the start of the month and many videos, including yours have got me to the point of binding off the back of my first sweater! I found your commentary great, like a time capsule. As you spoke about the November sunshine whilst I sit at my knitting machine, four years later with the sunshine shining into the lounge here - having just witnessed another US election.

How do you replace a knitting hook
@daviemac99256 ай бұрын
On that machine you carefully pull out the plastic rail where the needle needs to be changed, use some small pliers and some material to protect it be gentle! Replace your needle and put the slot back, gently tap it in with something, not a hammer though.

Hi again,Davie, I noticed that you have keyplates that do not have the little velcro squares on them. Are your ribber keyplates the regular keyplates from the Bond main bed? The velcro strips fell off of my ribber keyplates. Do I need really need them? Should I glue them back on?
@daviemac99258 ай бұрын
The Velcro, no you don't need them at all. It was not one of their better ideas, they thought it would make them fit more snugly into the Carriages but they made no difference to it!
@knit19248 ай бұрын
@@daviemac9925 thank you, I was trying to glue them back on! So I just don’t have to do that, good!
@knit19248 ай бұрын
Hi Davie, how many stitches can you do in rib cast ons? I am only doing 32 left and rigth of 0, and it is very hard, because the ribber carriages are in the way of the brackets. I even moved the brackets to the ends of the bed. Should I add extensions to the main bed? I think that would help, do you? I guess I would have to exstend both beds?
@daviemac99258 ай бұрын
The brackets shouldn't be in the way, they're underneath the beds. The problem with just the original 100 needle beds and the Ribber Carriages is running them to the end they come off. 40 each side is probably the limit. you can knit If you can get hold of them, fit the extension kits. What I ended up doing with my Ribber was getting the extension kit and using it with the Classic Plus.
@knit19248 ай бұрын
@@daviemac9925 oh thank you Davie! I put an extension on the main bed, earlier! Is there a video on how to put extensions on the ribber? Is it easy enough to figure out, if I take the metal plate off of the ribber?
@daviemac99258 ай бұрын
@@knit1924 Hello. I've never seen a video on fitting the Ribber extension, You take the metal plate off the main Ribber and join the extension the same way as you did the main bed. Then refit the metal plate so it covers the extension, fill the gap in at the other end by attaching the metal plate that comes with the Ribber extension kit. It's really important that you do it this way round, if you replace the Ribber plate as was and fit the extension plate to the new piece, it could snap off when knitting.
@knit19248 ай бұрын
@@daviemac9925 thank you so much, Davie. So, the way I understand you is, I would definitely have to put both extensions on the ribber bed?
@daviemac99258 ай бұрын
@@knit1924 It should be one piece, as you have to overlap the long metal bed over the extension side, then fit the short length to the other end, to stop the bed snapping in two.

@@annesummers09 Look at my machine in the video, see the red rail at the front, (yours maybe a different colour) run your finger along and see do you feel any raised part. Then check along the back row, they should be smooth with no bits sticking up. That's the most common sticking point on these older machines. Can you put the carriage on with no knitting and no keyplate in and slide it back and too? Try that first and then get back to me.
@annesummers097 ай бұрын

@daviemac99257 ай бұрын
@@annesummers09 If it's the USM Ultimate Sweater Machine, there was a design fault with them. Unfortunately, they are now out of business, the only thing to do is to try and get hold of an older carriage and keyplates and if that doesn't solve the problem, we aren't going to be able to. They said it was an issue with the moulding of the plastic parts, unlike Bond UK they contracted everything out, whereas here everything was made on site. I'm sorry this isn't the positive outcome I like for people.

Is is easy to do circular knitting in this machine, like as in a “tube”? Thanks!
@daviemac9925 Жыл бұрын
Hi The circular cast on is just a way of making a closed edge cast on when working on a twin bed set up, it's complicated to knit a circle but can be done. You would need to cast on all needles on both sides and knit the back bed then the front, that's the only way to do it. Every row you would have to stop and change the keyplate over from one side to the other.

Anytime I've wanted to talk about it or play a game while feeling physically weak from pain he's been there. I am making him a scarf to show my appreciation. I had to look up how to cast off. @daviemac9925 Жыл бұрын
When you're knitting regular rows with all your working needles at the regular working position, it doesn't matter whether they're open or not, as they will open automatically and close again as you knit across the row. If you have needles in the forward position, then you do need to check before knitting that latches are open, or you'll lose the stitches! The brush is OK if you haven't got a cut off credit card.

Thats a really nice way of doing the lace and as you said you get the extra embellishment that's really nice. I've been trying to get hold of a bond elite for years, it's nice seeing one in action. Unfortunately when I see them they're usually in America and they might not cost too much there, but once the exchange rate kicks in and freight is added the price is just crazy to get anything like that to Australia!

The Elite is pretty rare now, it went out of production in 2000. The odd one still crops up from time to time, but it's mostly here or the USA and as you say the shipping is astronomical.
