Blood moon time cycle might be a reference back to Majora's Mask for their original idea of 7 days until they had less then 1 year to make the game. It's reasonable for people to like bg1 and bg2 better then DAO, but people that think they are objectively overall better games than DAO are honestly kind of insane. DAO took everything good about those games and discarded everything that was bad, innovating the game design and storytelling both (just like technology innovates and advances). Anybody that thinks otherwise is blinded by nostalgia. If someone was trying to get into real time party-based RPGs, no one in their right mind would recommend bg1 or neverwinter nights (or icewind dale or the like), they would recommend newer games that took all the fun stuff about them and made it better. Case in point: no one would recommend any of those old rpgs over baldur's gate 2 because most people know that bg2 did it better than any RPG of it's kind before it. Just like DAO improved substantially on bg1 and 2. Also, for anyone rightfully thinking about how I didn't mention planescape torment, you know damn well that's not a game, it's an interactive book disguised as one.

I really think that the creation of the Oocca was a terrible creative choice. The Ooccas were supposed to be these angelical beings from a city in the sky. They should have designed them a little more human like. But these “chicken people” design was too creepy to be used in other storylines of later games. Which is really bad because having been established that they were the closed race to the Gods every later game should have them in high consideration.

I think people do need to play it again though, it does not hold up as well as everyone thinks it does for some reason. There is plenty of great stuff about DAO but pretending it’s a near perfect game is a bit silly.

Formula is keeping things simple and focusimg the important parts like realistic companions, and story telling, they put alot of perspectives and none of them is boring or unlikeable so when you play the game you feel like there is a darkspawn invasion and had to pick between two girls and have a funny best male friend that tries to maje things right.

Think the best explanation for the Red Lyrium Idol is simply that it was made BY Corypheous, hence found in the deep roads... and upon his return, the 1st step in his plans for Inquisition was to re-create the idol a 2nd time seeing how the 1st one was destroyed. Makes far more sense than anything else, considering that he gives Samson the sword "inspired" by the one Meredith had BECAUSE his plan is to have a Templar commander under his control to counter the ONE thing that could have gotten in his way.... a mage interrupting other portions of the ritual he wants to do.

I wouldn't consider one desire demon not having the stock desire demon model to not be a retcon, they're just a specific desire demon that looks that way. Thats like saying it's a retcon for important named NPCs to not use generic NPCs models

majoras mask and twilight princess is so satisfyingly dark. majoras mask is just really edgy (in a good way), you literally wear the faces of your dead friends. twilight princess is thematically dark with its atmosphere and just everything. however that interloper scene in TP tops everything in the whole series imo

DA:O was one of those games that was made with good DNA and formula’s that worked. Toss in its dark setting, high player choice, and flair in the writing… You had a banger. It’s too bad later entries utterly failed in some of these respects. With the last one being so divorced from it that I do not even count it.
