I like jpg because they can be tagged. I can find an old photos with the tags and then based on the file name find the raw file is so inclined. As far as I know you can't tag RAW. Am I wrong about that?

If your hotel room doesn’t have a balcony I have found the bathroom is a good place to put your camera bag overnight as they often aren’t air conditioned. Just don’t put your bag in there while you shower and leave some time for the bathroom fan to clear the humidity.

I also run studios for over 30 years and yes Dan, you are right, I also hate sales and money talks. But it is what it is. We live from that. I make a different between company and private business in general. And I work with set of 5. This covers in mostly all. But if someone need 6, honestly? I will not discuss and hand it out for zero as a benefit. If I would discuss this this is so petty, I would feel shame for this. My clients come back and that seems more important to me than any others. This is what you should do in private business. in corporate business we should not have this issue, because of a written proposal we hand out and let confirm.

Thanks for covering basics with thorough explanations. This question may be out of place on this video but can you tell me if the current version of Capture One has a 'focus stacking' or 'focus merge' feature or should I rely on other applications like Affinity Photo 2 for that capability? Best, Matt

Excellent work Dan... thanks for covering the basics so practically. After experiencing frustrations with Sony and Canon 'free' tethering apps I get the impression that Capture One is the best option since 'stock' apps are glitchy, lame and weak. Wonder if you agree or if it's more operator error on my part that generates all the frustration I've experienced. Best, Matt

@DanCantero29 күн бұрын
Temp Hi there. I don’t provide any images with the session. I review the images with my client straight after the session. This way I can help them by explaining what makes a good photo. My average went up as soon as I started doing this a few years ago. Regarding editing, it depends. If I’m shooting for a company where I shoot a large number of people, then I send it out for retouching. Otherwise I do my own. I use a variety of tools for this. My main one these days is Evoto. I've seen that before with a cable that was not compatible. Have you tried a different USB cable? Check out the best travel tripod ever! Click below 👇 for the best price I've found. 🔥 🔥 amzn.to/41QqCdd In this video, I am going to talk to you about my new travel tripod. I recently purchased the Ulanzi Zero Y tripod. I think this is the best travel tripod available today. It is small, light and has an ingenious ball head design that keeps the size to a minimum. At the same time, it doesn’t compromise too much when compared to a full-size tripod. I have been using this tripod now for 3 months and it hasn’t skipped a beat. I took this tripod to the UK, Spain and to Morocco. I used this tripod in the Sahara Desert which is one of the most testing environments for a tripod. Even though I had the legs of the tripod deep in sand and dirt, the legs still extend without any problems. When researching this tripod, I looked around for the best price I could find. The link above is the best price I could find anywhere. @DanCanteroАй бұрын
Hi Marcos, really good question. No I don't use a model release because I am not going to use the images commercially. Essentially you are being paid to carry out the job and delivery the images. If you were looking to make the images available to another party or maybe see them on a stock media site, then yes you would need a model release. I only deliver the images to my client and I also feature them on my site but I ask them before hand to make sure they are ok with that. Hope that helps. Dan

Ps: using a windows 10 laptop with 1080p resolution, camera is shooting jpg @ 45mp. Thanks in advance!

Hi Gina. Hmmm.... sounds weird. Ok, the only thing I can think of is that the images are configured to go straight into the catalog. For some reason C1 has this setting as a default. Try this. Launch C1 and select the TETHER module. You'll see there is a section in there called "Next Capture Location" This is where you point the images to go to the external drive. There is also a setting in there called "Destination" by default, it will say "Inside Catalog" click the drop down and select "Choose Folder" now point this to the folder on the external drive where you want your images to go. This used to get me every time. Hopefully it's the same thing. Let me know how you go. Dan

@DanCanteroАй бұрын
Hi Tim. Sorry for the late reply. There isn't really an optimal size for a studio. Basically the bigger the better. However, I would say anything larger than 4m x 5m is going to be really good. Having said that, I've shot in a small room which was 3m x 3.5m. A bit squeeze but made it work. Hope that helps.

Hi Dan thanks for the great video. Hey I've got a question for you. When I take a picture of my face directly with my phone camera I feel it's not the same as when I see myself in the mirror. But when I take a picture of my reflection of a mirror with the same camera I look a lot better. So my question to you is: Since DSLR takes pictures reflected onto its internal mirror do faces look better versus a mirrorless camera?
@DanCantero3 ай бұрын
Hey! Great question. Actually there’s no difference between the images from a dslr and a mirrorless camera n that respect. Most phone cameras are a wide angle camera and not flattering when used close to the face. What you’re seeing is probably a small barreling effect caused by the lens.
@DanCantero3 ай бұрын
Just to add to that. The reason it looks better when you shoot into a mirror is because you are essentially doubling the distance from the camera to your face. This is why it looks better. Hope that helps.

Thank You for your valuable help with this information. Problem 1. I have had some difficulty using Strobes that use E26 Modeling bulbs while using Color Gels inside Softboxes. My original solution was to just shoot the strobe with a basic reflector with Barn Doors with a Gel holder behind a Diffusion Scrim. Solution to Problem 1. I carefully developed and modified the Bowens mount speed rings for Softboxes with internal female Bowens mount adapters that allows me to install color gels extended beyond the E26 Bulb Modeling lights inside Square or Octagon Softboxes. Problem 2. Since 99% of the Flash / Speedlights don't have built in modeling lights..., the rest I really don't have to explain. No modeling light, Less control and harder to get my Cameras Autofocus to work properly. Solution to problem 2. ? Maybe ? Installing an LED light source inside a softbox as the modeling light that is strong enough to illuminate a subject that is at the most, 5 - 6 feet away with the speedlight as the primary light source? If the LED is too weak at a given distance, I'll have to absolutely consider moving the Softbox closer. After Test shooting, Ring lights are just not strong enough. You feed back would really be appreciated. What do you think?
@DanCanteroАй бұрын
Hey Darren. Sorry for taking so long in replying. Sounds like you’ve got a really good problem solving brain!! Yes I suppose you could put a light inside the diffuser. Most of the modelling lights in strobes are not very bright. (60w bulbs). You don’t need much light. What I do in some cases is turn off all other lights and draw a curtain on windows. This lets me see what the modelling light is showing me. Even at full strength modelling lights aren’t strong enough a lot of the times. I hope that helps. Dan
@darrenbivings4227Ай бұрын
@@DanCantero The E26 Modeling Light bulb that comes with my Lights is a 150w Tungsten Bulb. But they are 3.5 inches long. No good for attaching internal Color Gels. There was no inexpensive way to attach Color Gels on each Softbox. Attaching a Color Gel requires some adaptation close to the light without touching the Color Gel, just outside the distance of the modeling light. That problem was I solved with an internal Female Bowens adapter sandwiched into the Bowens Speed Ring attaching a Male adapter with 3 half inch Binder clips around the circumference of the male adapter with magnets to hold the color gels. Problem Solved. As soon as I switch to a Flash/Speedlight without a Modeling light, these logistics completely change. My adapter modification works with a Godox S adopter but with no Modeling light. I'm looking at Lume Cube and other LED sources to stick inside the Softbox & Flash / Speedlight. All Too weak. I need LEDs that are putting out 150w equivalent which is about 5000 Lumens and above. Not easy to find that fits.

The reason I jumped to a mirrorless camera for headshots was to allow me to direct my subjects without having to bring the camera to my eye, as I've found that people's fleeting postures and expressions can go away or stiffen by the time I do. So with the brilliant eye autofocus of my Nikon Z8 I can put it on a tripod, interact freely with my subject, and hit the remote when I see something I love. I never thought I'd replace my D850, and still prefer the files from that camera, but the new system has been great and worked as I had hoped it would.
