These power questions are things I havent been able to stop thinking about while playing this game. Especially when batman does inverted take downs and leaves people hanging. People DIE like that. What part of his no killing prophecy isnt entirely self serving when he is willing to do everything else to a person to get to what he wants. He uses torturous intimidation methods for interrogation, he leave people out for dead, but that's fine. But when joker dies out of his OWN series of actions (taking Titan, fucking around with it and the cure and then STABBING THE HAND BATMAN HELD IT IN) THAT'S WHEN YOU HAVE TO BE SAD? Theres no clearer way of saying batman will only care about the deaths of relevant people. The other question I have is why tf some of these people are even in asylums and not prisons like poison ivy who isnt mentally fucking ill. Shes just NOT HUMAN. what the fuck do you think shed be like😭
@kwayneboy152416 сағат бұрын
Honestly mate it's just a video game not everything is meant to be accurate too life. How do crooks not die when hung upside down? Well the same way Batman can use his bare hands to rip open grates it's just fiction and it's only there because it looks cool. I think the ends justify the means here as while it's messed up for Bruce to do it it's mostly for the greater good compared to the villains. I searched for this answer myself and from what I gathered(by just messing about on wiki) most characters believe that some of the villains have powers or at least all of them. For example Poison Ivy while can control plants seems to claim she can talk too her and tell her things but that's not possible because plants aren't sentient enough to be capable of proper thought so the doctors think she's schizophrenic. Same goes for Ratcatcher I mean while yes he can use rats as his weapons it would be impossible for him to speak to them and for him to understand them.

For me this film came out a few years before i was off to uni so having it as a reminder to not forget the items that made my childhood magical but also to be open to letting someone else experience that same joy in another gen. I understand how quick we are to call next gen cringe or out of touch, but they have more similarities than we give them any credit for.

Fantastic video as always. Really enjoyed your analysis of the incinerator and its narrative contribution especially. I'm super excited for the final 3 but at the same time also a bit sad it's coming to an end. Really appreciated you bringing up how Coco in many ways was a bit of the first dig into the trend Pixar would tap into with making personal near-autobiographical works like with Luca, Turning Red and even Onward to an extent. It would even be felt in some of the sparkshorts they made for D+ given their own extremely personal spins. Adrian Molina in general has some amazing contributions with his storyboard work across the films he's been on that, personally speaking, carry a ton of heart. On the other hand, I'm extremely cautious of Elio with this autobiographical slant given how Molina has left the project with Domee Shi from Turning Red and Madeline Sharafian from Burrow taking the reigns. Going by recent interviews with some employees both current and past, it seems like some major issues happened during production that stem mostly from story, which is such a shame considering how personal these recent films have been. What's so off about this is the general vibe of these interviews stating that the story changes are a result of the reception given to recent releases that had autobiographical elements and their instances of LGBT+ rep which is... concerning. Molina himself is a queer Mexican-American man and Elio since early press info has been described in similar airs to how Luca, Turning Red and Onward all were based off of fairly personal experiences the directors went through during childhood.

@@MicahEdmonds Nice, I really appreciate these vids and your perspective on them. Really hoping whatever Molina cooked up in his would-be debut film still carries his charm and whatever truthful experiences he picked up from his own life. His style has always been my favorite since his storyboarding back with Toy Story 3 lol. Molina is responsible for some great scenes in Pixar's films, such as Arlo and Spot's heart-to-heart scene sharing their family losses or when Mike and Sully confess to each other in the human world regarding their insecurities in MU. My personal favorite scene will always be Hector playing before Chicharrón and the real stakes of the story are set. Domee Shi is great and in many ways takes cues from Molina too, such as both of them being huge game and anime nerds to the point that they influence the art and story of their works lol.

2:12:26 would make sense if scarecrow didn’t exist. Sure the game has no people and only revolves around one man but the man in question dresses as a bat, beats up on thugs, and constantly thinks himself as belonging in this same hospital. Batman doesn’t think he’s deserving of being alive or without being incarcerated in the equivalent of hell. You assume the world building is fucked because it covers extreme comic book vibes with a serious undertone of mental illness left untreated. So why stop at the game and not any other book or video game??? Because it isn’t saying mental illness is horrible and should be eradicated but rather that it can be saved, that’s why Batman still saves thugs and villains. But the fault of Batman isn’t that he can’t kill or save them so much as it’s that he can’t save them from purgatory. He can only really save himself by sticking to the path. He’s also bound to let the law do its job in which case the people of Gotham are to blame. Batman spits on Quincy Sharps notion, maybe not audibly, but through actions he takes throughout the game. Batman has to face dark reflections and conquer them but the flaw of Batman is that he believes it to be a solo task. If you read the book Arkham Asylum a serious house on serious earth, it covers Batman basically enduring hell. in order to escape the hell he has to let people help him mainly Harvey dent. Harvey, who has been worked onto tarot cards instead of the coin, is given that coin back by Batman which threatens to undo the work set out by the doctors. But Harvey saves him by his own accord as it’s revealed that he didn’t obey the coin at all. Batman is also seen as an evil by the current warden in the book who describes how he simply sends them to a place, WHeRE THERE SUPPOSED to BE TREATED, as a bad thing despite Batman having to work around the clock at night to fucking protect Gotham. It’s much the same here where Batman is seemingly an annoyance to Sharp despite his being the “legacy bearer”. Hell after sharp is found out he begs Batman to do it. Now all this to say while it doesn’t tackle the people at the asylum very well or at all. To say that it’s somehow Batman’s fault for his power trip is a disservice to how terrible of a day this actually is for Batman. Because despite Batman being “ overpowered “ in combat and Stealth it actually isn’t the case given him being unable to save lots of people or even believing he can stop the joker. The world building is good, it might not be tasteful to you but this baffling depiction of its obscene and horrible take on mental illness as “ an evil” (which by the way doesn’t exist as a truth but a fallacy in the game). Is a disservice to the actual message that it gives.

Stumbled across this video after hard binging on some pretty venomous material declaring the insurmountable excellence of the PS2 era over everything thereafter, and I'm absolutely blown away. I love the music of this video; I love the pacing; the thoughtfulness behind the reflecting voice; I love how you pose the characters in such a way that makes their endearing yet noirish melancholy shine through, and take us through gorgeous environments on foot at walking pace in addition to showing your command over the core mechanics. When I actually first played this game, as a diehard fan of the PS2 era and absoolutely nothing after, I was so disappointed that it had gone further down the route of Pixar-esque child-friendly animation rather than the abrasive, snarky, anti-capitalist-but-who-actually-cares approach of the earliest games. Yet your enthusiasm for the new characters ("she's so *kind*") and love for the sheer human effort and care that has gone into this title - as well as the entire series - is honestly humbling. I'll never see a game, nor possibly any other piece of art, without hearing a little echo of this video's uncynical voice, decentring me from my own ideas of what I want it to be and highlighting the journey taken through each work of art through many creative stages to reach something whole, coherent, flawed, and different in each separate iteration. I love the bite of the closing remarks, too - a little tough love, and a call to return to the emotional highs that a series with this much emotional (as well as literal) firepower should absolutely be aiming for. Love it, love you, great job.

you uploading this video means alot to me, im so glad someone is pointing out the true beauty of this movie. i have always been into paleontology, since i was young, and when this movie came out my family bought me a DVD the moment they hit the shelves; i watched this movie so much the DVD began to fall apart. alro meant so much to me, ive always been an odd individual in my family; im awkward and lanky and dont understand my body or emotions; my hardest is barely enough. i have generalized anxiety disorder and symptoms began showing when i was 8, i was terrified of everything around me, of pain, of failure, of not being good enough. watching alro change, grow, but still realistically be his lanky, anxious self, just a bit more resilient, means everything to younger and older me. it reminds me that even though i still feel cowardly, patheitc, and so forth, im still growing and getting more resilient with the days. i can still be me, just learn to handle it a bit better. i also thought this movie was breathtaking, absolutely gorgeous. the scenery, the lighting, the clouds, the *water*, i love how the water looks in this movie, how everything looks. the artistic style in this movie genuinely does so much for it, because it feels so raw, so truthful. thank you for this video, i am so sick of seeing people slander a movie that means everything to my heart. thank you for understanding how much this movie means to people like you, people like me.

I am so relieved to finally, after TEN YEARS, see a positive review of this movie. Ever since I saw this film in theaters it has stayed with me and held a very special place in my heart. This, along with Finding Nemo, is my favorite Pixar film that they've ever made. I just adore the beauty of the greater Yellowstone landscape, the topsy turvy idea of dinosaurs being the dominant species (with humans being more like animals), the whole Western flair to the setting, and just simply watching the incredible change that comes over Arlo as he grows and fights to survive in the wilderness. What a marvelous example of a coming of age story. Truly a unique film full of wonder, danger, and beauty (just like nature). I will never stop loving it, and all this time I've felt like I've been taking crazy pills because EVERYONE else around me just wants to dogpile on this movie for some reason. How can they not see what I see? It's honestly strange to me. I guess it goes to show how differently all of our brains are wired though. Where one person sees one thing, another person sees something else.

If you have actually read batman comics… turn off this video. It’s a horrid misunderstanding of Batman mythos and a forced allegory towards mental illness that is not only forced but completely misunderstands almost every Batman character in the game
@ghudbob8613Ай бұрын
The game literally does focus on the mental illness aspects though. Theres the tapes and character logs where it’s the doctors picking the brain of characters like joker and seeing what makes them tick, then realizing joker is just plain evil. Talking about psychology is a fair take to have lol.
@spederm0n283Ай бұрын
@@ghudbob8613 talking about psych is ok. Saying Batman encourages beating up the mentally ill is not. Just because Batman doesn’t explicitly say “Arkham is a corrupt mental institute” doesn’t mean he condones the actions of sharp. Batman is meant to stop the criminals from causing people harm, the justice system and their treatment is not in his jurisdiction
@ghudbob8613Ай бұрын

Originally I thought you were critiquing the fact he talked about the psych of the characters and didn’t realize he did such a poor job of actually understanding the mind of them lol.
@spederm0n283Ай бұрын
@@ghudbob8613 nah ur good lol, but yeah once you get far into the video he has this entire huge rant about the depiction of mental illness in the game that has just really bad takes. There’s stupid shit like “why is croc here he has a physical illness not a mental one” even tho he literally thinks he’s a crocodile, lives like a crocodile, and eats people, misunderstandings of Batman lore, but it gets really bad when he essentially implies that rocksteady made Arkham so corrupt because they’re naive and disrespect the mentally ill even though the comic the damn game is based on makes the corruption of Arkham a focus of the story, and the treatment of its patients is tragic and dark by nature. Gotham city is a horrible place with horrible criminals, and the asylum is really just a maximum level prison with a misleading name, but he takes it suuuper far
@kwayneboy1524Ай бұрын
This video is really questionable and I find his viewpoint that Batman hates the mentally ill or is pro albinism. He sounds mad that it isn't what it's not trying to be and treats that as if it's a failure and how it preaches a message that doesn't exist
