I *finally* got round to watching this vid, and am very glad I did! This Critique did the most important thing such a video could do, which was make me look at the game and see beyond what it is and what it could have been with sometimes only minor modifications. I thought the game was 'good enough' before, but now I see it could have been so much cooler. So yeah great vid. :P

Heavily disagreed with the assessment. Hellblade is a linear cinematic adventure game just like TLOU, but it uses interactivity to put you, the player, inside of a head of someone who had psychosis, similar to Silent Hill 2. The characters are actually fleshed out. The Norse mythology and the Celtic culture were tied into the game's theme instead of using them as set-dressing. The gameplay is not a Filler but a tool to show Senua's reality. The game actually allowed people in real life to open up about their experience and make something as difficult as psychosis to be a dinner table topic. That's how the game can use its limitation to go beyond the typical game narrative. TLOU on the other hand lacks anything beyond its initial premise.

The timestamp is 31:15. I'm gonna answer what you say are the most important questions to be answered if you liked this game's story before I continue watching. First question: How is the game written? To me, it felt like an old legend or folktale being told by a third party. We are witnessing someone tell the story (the legend, if you will) of Senua, specifically of her adventure into Viking Hell, and slowly giving us details as to what led up to it as they become prevalent in the story (we only learn about Senua's meeting of Dillion once we as Senua encounter a tree similar to the one she met Dillion under). Second question: what is Psychosis? As far as the story is concerned, it is Senua's anxieties, fears, past trauma, and other personal demons manifesting in a very surreal and visceral form, said form being various demons, puzzles, and environments she must brave and get through to save the soul of the person whose fate she feels solely responsible for. I don't know if that's a textbook definition of what psychosis actually is, but it's the idea played with in the game.

Excellent critique. While I appreciated my time with Hellblade, I always felt the guiding hand of the devs WAY too much.
