A lot can be done with Hags at lower levels, I like to use the device from Rahasia and make them powerful only as a coven, and spin them more neutral or even lawful evil, making wicked deals that demand child sacrifices, etc., to test morality.

The devouring Mother becomes literal with the Hag. Hag covens provide fertile space for stories & adventures. Thanks for giving my other favorite ladies of the night some attention.

You know, I'm aware 'male hags' is an unpopular concept for good reasons due to its lack of archetypal roots but I could actually see that working as a monster. If the classic female hag is everything noxious about the darker side of feminity (beauty lost, envy, witchcraft, manipulation) then it stand to reason their male counterpart would be everything foul and vile about the darker side of masculinity. Huge, boorish ogre-like fey with rapacious appetites and desires, some of the definitely-best-unmentioned variety. Violent but cunning bullies. I could see something a bit closer to an ogre mage being their male counterpart.

I was wondering if Night Hags would make the cut, but they are not true hags, either.

"More powerful in X" shows up in a few creatures, usually making them memorable. 3e's Death Knights were okay, but the Dragonlance version, with extra spells for making PC days nasty and short, were one of my favorites.

Not going to lie. I am still stunned that WOTC and Hasbro haven’t censored the Hags yet.

I know there is the issue of the great barrier so this plan would need help from some of the Immortals but could there be some way to banish/transport/dimension-door/etc. Black Annis to the Cathedral of the Silver Flame in Eberron so she would have to face the Loli-Pope?

Hags are in my top 10 favorite monsters in D&D and I'm pleased to hear at your favorite setting actually makes them more powerful than they are in some of the other settings giving all of them control of the undead it's a very nice touch I usually wait for the weekend to watch your videos but I'm glad I didn't this time this made my night a little bit better thank you

If Hags were retconned to being Fey what were they originally? Ogres, like in Dragonlance?

Had was so much with fun my hags and blowing the player's minds. Yup, you guessed it ... a Mystara setting.

I would like to point out that Strongheart probably had a 17 Charisma because that was a requirement for AD&D paladins.

I like that magic is so "Common", what i dont like is that you dont really have a choice in the matter. If i play a Wizard, Picking a High Elf gives me both Proficiency in Martial weapons so that i can Use Long Bows as "Cantrips", while also improving my AC because of the required Dex. I also get the Mage Hand Cantrip, which i totally use in absense of a Rogue to check for traps. aaand thats it. I enjoyed playing that type of character, but i would be lying if i said i wanted to play some races with different options. A Tiefling Wizard for example can cast Darkness. Really useful if your allies need a quick escape or can fight blinded... but a lot of spells require sight to cast them on targets inside the darkness. This means that you can have to circumvent through save DC spells instead. If i had the choice to change Darkness for something else... suddenly both variety in character design but also the "uniqueness" factor you complain about are still there. To conclude, conditioning it is not the only solution. Variety in options also helps... that said, if i were a DM, i could do both. You get the variety in options, but they are conditioned in some way so that players can't meta game like "Oh, we are fighting a tiefling cultist. Watch out for the darkness spell". The enemy might have something entirely different or not even have that in the first place.

As an lgs owner, 5.5 is failing miserably... i have been running the store since 92, this is far worse than 4th. I would be hesitant to make it 5.5.
