I know this is opinion based, and you could make a case for Sergio... at top 5... maybe. But to outright rank him above KR (possibly the greatest rugby player ever, not just No.8, Brooke and Vermeulen (hind sight, because this appears to have been made between the 2019 and 2023 world cups)) is just wrong in my opinion. Ardie should be there abouts too (in hind sight as well) and soon Wallace Satiti will be on that list and may one day top it.

Ireland have never won a knockout game of rugby. Let that sink in.

Best v Wood? No question it's Woodie. Best was at best overrated. If Flannery didn't get injured we would have never heard much of him. Just another media darling. Hard to call Heaslip over Foley but I get your argument on stats. Just my Munster heart. Fly half; hard to compare 10s when the game had changed so much. Largely, for the flys due to the work of ROG, Wilko and Carter which the next gen benefited from. I like Sexton and know that every10 needs some swagger but JS was borderline arrogant. That said, what a great Irish warrior Bar that; great list. Especially Carney's 2nd test in 2009; the most complete fullback performance ever.

Who do you pick to beat Ireland in the 2027 RWC Quarter final? Comment below.
@george.rtalbot1926Ай бұрын
Ireland, Australia started your curse, you’re going to have to beat them to break it, if you manage to beat say, Japan instead, you’ve got lucky, however knock Australia off, and the world’s your oyster, semi’s and finals will be yours, if you don’t, Portugal and Chile have a better chance of going further than you

Speed, acceleration, strength, power in the tackle (whether or not his legs are held), and an ability to sidestep and swerve, made him peerless.

Lot of great picks here! However van der Flier over Sean O'Brien is a poor call imo. O'Brien WAS the Irish attack at points in his Irish career, and executed it to a very high standard, despite the opposition being set up to counter his ball-carrying. Unbelievable player at his peak and a joy to watch! I'd also take Bundee Aki over Darcy, Darcy became just a defender toward the end of his career as the size of opposing centres had inflated so much, ensuring he had little utility as a ball-carrier. Also I think Aki is just a better player, especially in defence. Otherwise great XV!

The late John Reason, a rugby writer for the Sunday Telegraph and Daily Telegraph, and never a - to put it *very* mildly - "fan" of New Zealand rugby, in his valedictory article when he retired, said Michael Jones was the best rugby player he had ever seen. I have often wondered what he might have thought of Richie McCaw.
