Whats even scarier is that he wasn’t even operating at 100% health during most of his career 😬😬😬

Consider that in 90's the average winger was probably at 180/200 lbs. He was 260, so looking at his size nobody expected him to be a back, but a forward (probably a lock). It has to be said that he started playing as number 8 and then he got asked about trying to play at wing and the result was what everybody knows.

People say that he wouldn't be as effective in todays game because of the increased strength and conditioning of the players he would be facing and point to the fact that many modern wingers are 110kg+ but dont have nearly the same impact as he had. What they are forgetting is that no other winger of his size since has had his level of acceleration and top speed. The speed he was moving at combined with his size is what made him so difficult to tackle. Also the players between 95-02 weren't that much smaller than the players we see today, the loose jerseys make them look less built but if anything there are more short wingers and fullbacks below 5'9 in the game today

It also ignores the fact that Lomu would receive the very same conditioning and training if he were playing nowadays. If that's how effective he was back then, he'd be even more lethal if he debuted today.

@@MrAhuapai Christian Cullen didn't really need great offloads to score. I'd like you to show me the "loads of tries" they scored off offloads from him against the Boks. You saying so doesn't make it true. The Springboks had his number, but that does not detract from the fact that he was extraordinary, a game changer and wonderful to watch.

Was my fav player for a while. He really backed up Jonah well as you can see in some of these videos. I still laugh at that try josh took the ball off Jonah who did the impossible like only he could, and Josh robbed him when he was pretty much already over the line right at the end. RIP champ.

I was and still is a Big Fan and Admirer of Lomo, may he RIP, but what is never mentioned by the media is that after 10 years banned from playing international rugby the Springboks in the 1995 world Cup tackled the crap out of Lomu. The Springbok management and coaching staff knew that, even as the ABs were the greatest rugby team on earth, they build and relied much too much on Lomu!!!
