What a fantastic talk. Lots of wisdom and foresight condensed into these 50 minutes. As someone who recently started their clumsy descent into real-time ray tracing and computer graphics, I extra appreciated the advice and the life anecdotes. Rest in peace Mr. Parker, and a heartfelt thank you.

the esteemed Mr Blinn is introduced here by Alvy Ray ("White Light") Smith, who wrote one of the first paint programs ... it was my pleasure and privilege to meet him, observe his work and get to use his wonderful paint program when I got to NYIT's Computer Graphics Lab in '78

I sit here rendering 37 million triangles in Keyshot and I'm glad I don't have to do these maths, but I appreciate the pioneering work. I started at the U of U in 2001 and slept through most of Dave Hanscom's classes, but eventually went to UVSC because they had a MUCH better program for computer graphics at the time.

Dan Hanscom's programming C class was my first formal CS class. The hardware/software combo class: ahh, the brown suit cases... the wire wrapping... the debounce switches... it was 3am, in the U of U lab, when the software and hardware gave the correct set of prime numbers. 24 hours access to the CS lab was well used. I was impacted by the selective emissions in the CS department; a professor whispered in my ear to jump over to the EE department for Computer Engineering, so I could take all the CS/EE cross listed CS classes. The long hours were good preparation enabling graduate courses at the U of U and Stanford University, and a 25 year career at Intel Corporation designing computers starting with 180nm transistors. Today still driving down the size, reaching 20 and 18 angstroms, optimizing power/performance computing for the world.

I’ve had the opportunity of walking on this leg and it is awesome. Dr Lenzi and his team have done a great job with this and the new partnership with Ottobock is one step closer to this being available to use outside the lab.

I’m in a battle to save my leg from damage caused by an extremely aggressive tumor. I hope that I will never need this kind of prosthetic but knowing that legs like these are being developed puts my mind at ease and if unfortunately have to get amputated, this is the first product that I hope to try out. I will keep following along with your progress and hope to see it land in the hands of people soon. Keep it up Utah, you guys are doing God’s work.
