The USB C board has 2 connectors and one of them need to connect to the Video port. Is it possible that the USB C port cound function just with the USB C connection made and the Video cable not engaged?. The card below that empty space is the WLAN card which gives your laptop Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity but if you'd like to be able to have internet connection on the go through the cellular network you can also add a WWAN card.

I am an old Windows user too (since 95), I still do a lot of thing on Windows 10 and 11, but to be honest Mac books started to grow on me since I got an old 2015 Mac Book pro 2 years ago. 8Go of ram but works like a charm, the build quality and 2k retina screen is really impressive for its time (even today for a laptop!) and I think that's the first touchpad I really enjoy to use. I totally agree with the points you mentioned, and I could add two more things that are a big + for me: 1) Unix base - As I work a lot with Linux for my job, It's nice being able to create small scripts or run linux commands on my laptop. 2) Upgrades on Mac are bugfree (at least compared to what I see on Win11...) Great video, keep up the good work!
