"Renau Blvd" in Summerville was named after my Uncle "Frank Renau", a realtor. The town of nearby "Knightsville" was named after another Uncle "Herman Knight". I have considered retiring on Renau Blvd if the right property came up. I am currently in Washington state where the same house in SC would cost twice as much here. I enjoy your detailed videos, Pat Renau

What do you think about the area on either side of "Renau Blvd"? It was named after my Uncle, Frank Renau, and I always thought about retiring on that street... I am in western Washington State now where traffic and high cost of living are standard

Totally agree- especially with the culture shock. I relocated to a rural area of Florida from NJ and worse than the hurricane season is "Snowbird season". Talk about the need for pest control. From April to November you won't hear one car horn blast on the roads- totally changes when the Snowbirds come to town- very hurried and impatient (and they're on vacation to relax)- they have an attitude that without their money, Florida couldn't survive. Everything out of their mouth is "Up North, Up North"- very insensitive to native Floridians who don't want to hear it (and are too polite to say). I think before you ask yourself where to relocate, you need to fully understand why you want to relocate and what it really entails. Hurricanes, Blizzards, Flooding, Tornados, Earthquakes...everyplace has something to deal with. If you aren't a happy person, relocating is only a temporary fix.

Even if you can get an acre lot, builders are razing the landscape to fit as many houses as possible. I can't understand fencing in a half acre of backyard, mowing it every week, and when you relax on your back patio, all you see is an expanse of green grass and a fence at the other end.

No, It's roughly the same time to get to Downtown Charleston via I-26 that it is to take 61 into West Ashley and then Savannah Highway into Downtown Charleston. 40-45min

I love rear load garages. I hate seeing a garage door at the front of the house and seeing cars parked up front.
@RyanMcHughLivinginSummerville
@RyanMcHughLivinginSummerville 19 күн бұрын
Agreed! Especially when it's the focal point of the entire house and then a tiny little door off to the side. Personally, my plythe with most rear load garages here are how little of driveway space the developer allows for. It's not big enough to park a golf cart sometimes. Then you end up having to park on the street in front of the home.

I've lived in the same neighborhood for 10 years no HOA good or bad. My neighbor has a massive trash pile stacked up along the fence but I get to have a workshop in my backyard that I can use. I work on customer cars on the yard but I'm respectful of my neighbors. I have tire swings hanging from my big oak tree there's trees in my neighborhood five stories tall Plus. We're not taking the time to design places where people want to live and where people want to go. Everybody just wants to come to Summerville but you can't cuz there's only so much room and so the entire surrounding area is just nothing but Mega neighborhoods that have their own infrastructure hooked up. And what happens is none of y'all are actually living in Summerville you're all living in these big Mega shopping centers essentially but you keep cutting through Summerville to get between your MC mansions and your shopping centers

Buddy I've lived in Summerville for 20 years. I've had homes, apartments and lived in my car in the Walmart parking lot during Corona. The Publix in Knightsville now has and off duty police officer all hours of operation because theft has gotten so bad. You got an underclass of mostly lower class natives who have been completely priced out of the area. Every cute little 60s built starter home is being bulldozed for MC Mansion developments

We have been here for 3 years, and we are now looking into moving out. The biggest reason is our kids. Everyone says the schools are good. But I beg the difference but that's our opinion. Also, there's not many advancement opportunities academically and in sports for our kids. As well as some of our kids have graduated HS challenges, and the lack of job opportunities for the younger crowd, etc. They commute a lot for college and work. Everyone says there are job opportunities, but truly, there isn't. The infrastructure is so behind. I have been to a smaller town around the US, and they have better infrastructure. I love mt pleasant, but I wouldn't buy there only because you lose privacy with the number of tourists. I think CHS as a whole is awesome not having kids and having multiple streams of income. I mean, CHS is a tourist place. We miss going to big sports events and concerts. We love CHS/Summerville, but we see it as a vacation spot for our family. We do love it. We love South Carolina. we are looking into moving upstate SC. But I understand that for some, it works for others, it doesn't. Overall, wherever city anyone chooses to live, it should be based on your likes and lifestyle.

Yeah this is definitely a “We’re full” video. A few valid points though: HOAs do suck, ours isn’t even local so no real people (w/ any authority) to deal directly with. Took 6 months to get privacy fence approval. “South Carolina drivers” is an oxymoron but it’s not because of lawyers and lawsuits - it’s because they are uber defensive drivers, they are so cautious they’re dangerously indecisive. Which means no matter what you do, if it goes wrong, it’s going to be your fault. But SC is great!
