Your broth could easily be a starter or a meal depending on bowl size each look very tasty.

I've never seen the broth mix going in without washing or soaking overnight, I've often struggled when I've even just cold soaked for 24hrs. I clean until water is clear then boil and soak in salted water. Over night then rinse before adding to broth. Have you always used straight out of jar?

I am definitely too late to wish you both Merry Christmas, not sure if you celebrate Easter, so I will stick to a safe 'thank you so much for doing it again' :)))))))))))))))))) I thoroughly enjoy your videos :)

I say soup can be a starter or a meal, depends on the kind of soup you made. For instance I made posole and corn bread for dinner, posole is a Mexican soup and is very hearty made with hominy, pork and lots of peppers!

I use parsnips instead of potatoes and add a clove of garlic with the onions at start… use chicken drumsticks for stock and cornflour to thicken a little grate all carrots and parsnips.. beautiful scotch broth

That sounds like some French concoction. Garlic is banned in Scotland.

Random coincidence, I was looking for a scotch broth recipe and realised that this is the writer of Karen Pirie. I worked on a couple of episodes of that last year.

I searched for Scotch Broth recipe and clicked on this because it looked like Val McDermid... then the title happened, it was rather surreal. Thankfully found her work through my incredible English teacher in secondary school.

Karen Pirie: Set in St. Andrews in Fife ..... and not one authentic local accent can be heard. Its like casting a drama set in Atlanta with all Massachusetts actors delivering their lines in Boston accents. Even in almost angelified St. Andrews many residents have true Fife accents. Come on actors at least have a go at sounding authentic. We have all recovered from the neck wrenching Mel Gibson attempt at sounding Scottish. But I guess the fact that Scottish TV is a Glaswegian/outsider dominated enterprise, who do not mind running over other regions of their home turf, we should not have had any expectations that it would not be so. It is exasperating that these dramas continue to give outsiders the false impression that all Scots speak like Billy Connolly. Surely something written by Val McDermid should have some true Fife dialect in there.

1979 finally arrived tonight on a dreich Edinburgh day so I thought I’d watch your Cooking the Books series again for some light relief in the meantime. It’s great fun and evidently has had a lot of time and effort in the filming Jo, well done, it really makes me chuckle. More please🙏
