Dude you got it spot on. IDM was an eye opener for musicians on the amount of possibilities available within electronic music! Now, there is so MUCH music being released and so many different micro-genres that the essence of what Aphex was doing in the 90s is just intrinsically involved with all of it. If someone is inspired by Aphex, they are simply inspired by the fundamentals of creative electronic production :p

highly recommend the "Racional" trilogy by Tim Maia, the guy just adopted a religion out of the blue, made his best (IMO) records and regreted making them, there are songs in english as well and a very fun rabit hole to dive into.

When MF Doom was a teenager, he was in a cult called the Nauwabians, which had a leader named Dr. York who released a bunch of R&B albums. If you want a cult with some slow jams, I guess this is the one for you.

I listen to TPAB, it's 4 on the floor and the instruments are sampled anyway. The beat only changed once in the few minutes I've listened to it and I instanty said "PS1 Jungle Type Transition". I guess it's one of those albums that sounds better when looking at the lyrics, but I don't like looking at lyrics, I like listening to them, and Kendrick sounds schizophrenic. To me it sounds like copyright free beats VS crazy uncle crossover episode.

keep listening!! i think you should look into some of the bands the microphones/phil elvrum likes, primarially erics trip, hana stretton, red house painters, and if you havent already heard his work under mount eerie and his album also titled mount eerie. dj recode might scratch that harsh digital mixing/sound design you seem to be enjoying. Death grips is very unique but all of the members side projects (not music but stephans paintings are incredible) are really good. Xach Hill is an EP made by andy and zach thats even sampled on exmilitary and it is phenominal. The Ladies with Zach Hill and Rob Crow is also super good math pop, which makes it all the more impressive when you consider rob crow is very responsible for one of the most influentual math pop bands in norcal Heavy Vegtable which is also phenominal. Main other reccommendation would be Jim Orourkes Eureka if you havent already heard it. One of the most important artists of the 90s and Eureka is everything you like and more! (theres also a 3 hour sepia filtered film that is named after the album equally as potent and magnificent) and elliott smith is another obvious choice.

If your looking for some Bizarre albums it doesn't get much stranger then lumpy gravy by frank zappa (zappa wrote and composed 2 classical suits, put mics inside of a piano and record various spoken word conversations about topics ranging from gas stations to living in a piano and he recorded surf rock music, he then cut these tapes up with a razer and reattached them).

You'd get a huge kick out of my personal favorite concept record. From 2004, underground rappers Cage & Tame One came together under the name Leak Bros. to make an album called Waterworld. Being the only record they made together, it's a concept album about both of em being ridiculously and morbidly high on embalming fluid/PCP. Buuut... here's the catch. They're both rapping their freakin asses off with super clever bars and going into grave detail about their experiences on it. The whole album is like them writing a love letter to the drug itself and giving PCP all of their appreciation with every fiber of their being despite the harrowing downward spiral-esque life consequences that come with being relentlessly wrecked out of their minds. Even the beats match the aesthetic of the drug since they make it very clear that the shit is supposed to be referred to as leak, wet, dip, etc. Trust me, I'd never consider trying PCP and they certainly do not make it sound fun by any means. However, I've always found the album endlessly captivating with a crazy amount of replay value. A true hidden gem
