I would say Igor could be on this kinda list due to how often gen z praises that album. I think in a few years we will hear Igor influence all over the place

YES early skrillex is GOATED, a total sound design and MELODY master. Brostep's "cringe" reputation is a shame because, looking at it now, it's just so crazy to think this batshit robot orgy music somehow got to reach mainstream status at some point ??? As a kid who got into making music as a pre-teen thanks to 2010s EDM, i can confirm that every electronic artist i've ever talked to got influenced by him at some point, to some degree. he's more influential to music production than we can possibly imagine

As a Gen-Z music nerd myself, I have nothing bad to say about this list and mentions. Although there’s many many many albums that define Gen-Z music nerd culture. This is fairly on point for a list of 10 albums🗣️🗣️

A vaporwave album should definitely on the list but overall, pretty solid

wanted to include one but wasn’t sure which one and i didn’t wanna do floral shoppe, so i thought the george clanton mention was fair enough, i wanna do a full video on vaporwave in the future though

idk if you know or not but 2Hollis grew up with skrellex and appears in some early KZbin videos from his music label. 2hollis’ mom also manages skrillex alongside the weekend and j Cole, I thought this was really interesting and explains his sound a lot. 2hollis is my favourite nepo baby lmao. Cannot wait for him to blow up, the release of boy brought me out of my production hiatus to learn how to make electroclash and dubstep sounds

keep listening!! i think you should look into some of the bands the microphones/phil elvrum likes, primarially erics trip, hana stretton, red house painters, and if you havent already heard his work under mount eerie and his album also titled mount eerie. dj recode might scratch that harsh digital mixing/sound design you seem to be enjoying. Death grips is very unique but all of the members side projects (not music but stephans paintings are incredible) are really good. Xach Hill is an EP made by andy and zach thats even sampled on exmilitary and it is phenominal. The Ladies with Zach Hill and Rob Crow is also super good math pop, which makes it all the more impressive when you consider rob crow is very responsible for one of the most influentual math pop bands in norcal Heavy Vegtable which is also phenominal. Main other reccommendation would be Jim Orourkes Eureka if you havent already heard it. One of the most important artists of the 90s and Eureka is everything you like and more! (theres also a 3 hour sepia filtered film that is named after the album equally as potent and magnificent) and elliott smith is another obvious choice.

About Hyperpop and 100gecs I have been frustrated by the lack of experimentation (that I'm aware of) such as 100gecs in the scene, most of the songs and bands I have head in the genre are 100gecscore, it sounds like the b1nd but without the novelty. I think this is a 0henomenon occuring in most booming music genres but it felt strange as I had a kind of hope around hyperpopchanging the music landscape, wich it might have in ways that I don't realize. If anyone has great experimental and innovative hyperpop that came after 100gecs i'm open for recommandations !!!

I listen to TPAB, it's 4 on the floor and the instruments are sampled anyway. The beat only changed once in the few minutes I've listened to it and I instanty said "PS1 Jungle Type Transition". I guess it's one of those albums that sounds better when looking at the lyrics, but I don't like looking at lyrics, I like listening to them, and Kendrick sounds schizophrenic. To me it sounds like copyright free beats VS crazy uncle crossover episode.

@ilyhomesick even so, slints music can't even fall into much of any rock category besides calling it abstract rock, Sort of a side note; In LA, the more educated (ucla, etc.) Sub cultures are performing rock/punk/indie/etc. with avant garde techniques learned from the colleges education system which studies the avant garde (john cage, la monte young, keith rowe etc.) And free jazz (Albert ayler, ornette Coleman, etc.) Taking rock music back to is 60s experimentatism roots while inheriting the Influence of decades worth of progess proceeding out of the 60s till now. These groups seem to be the only ones who care about abstract things in rock at the moment, or at least discovering the process of trying to do more things into rock. Yet it's all a limit based on tradition, whereas now all those schools of thoughts and techniques are now traditional yet universities will never say so, and students will learn these things thinking they playing within a revolution when they're trapped in performing the things that have already been performed and tried I think MBV is perhaps in the lead when it comes to inspiring new things to be done to rock, or powerful creative thinking into rock song. MBV is very popular, yet how is it missed that their process is entirely experimental? If Gen z was to witness a prime 91 MBV performance, I think most would not like it for its volume, intensity, and love of destroying tradition. Overall, as a Gen Z who loves music and studies humanities, I think Gen Z is the most religiously conforming generation post WWII, conforming to authority, tradition, and values that are given by the media. Thus music is at a stalemate, scenes are not scenes and gatherings are not gatherings, they are weak observation "content content" processions. No one really understands the image they have inherited from their cultural ancestors and its become something that's to be worn and worth participation because they are afraid that there is nothing else to do and nothing else is happening. "Might as well go with this flow" Thus music suffers, things such as cancel culture manifests, drama is at the greatest risk of breaking out, people are judged for being themselves as those who do not walk in line with the flock or as a school of fish. Tl:Dr, Gen z is the most uninspired and easily conforming to tradition generation.
