I remember my high school music teacher's words: Every composition is a portrait of the composer, and yes, many of the classical composers really were that dry and boring...

This is one of the most beautiful orchestral pieces ever written. It is awe inspiring and sets the soul ablaze. This performance with Sir Neville Mariner is flawless in both its execution and interpretation. Sublime in every aspect.

The problem in general with the 110a vs the 110 is that with an ensemble rather than four soloists, you just don't get the same attacca in the Allegro Molto.

I was watching the Remembrance Sunday event from the Cenotaph and this piece always gets the tears welling, I think because I associate it with Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

I humbly present the 3rd movement of my Piano Concerto No 2, a boisterous jaunt through a fugue, then a gigue, slows down to an arabesque type dance, then becomes an all-out romp, and that's just the preview! Hope to lift your Autumn spirits! kzbin.info/www/bejne/npzVoXl4hsmroNk Thanks!

I can play a little bit of guitar, not crazy but not amateur, this on the other looks unreal, I rarely even see violins in person so I can’t imagine playing one

This gives me hope for modern music. Jessie Montgomery could learn a thing or two from Master Wallen.

Mariner REALLY "steps on the gas" at 2:17 and has the trumpets SING over top of the rest of the orchestra... until that EXQUISITE area at about 3:08... which is unbelievably SUBLIME... as the tympani COMPLETE the full picture !!!

Almost 50 years ago, as a teenager I was bitten by the classical music bug. 💙 Most of the music I heard was through CBC radio in Canada. My heart would always skip a beat when the show host would announce that the😅 upcoming piece would be "...performed by The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, under the direction of Sir Neville Marriner." Oh! - those words still give me goosebumps.💙 Thank you to you all who have been involved over the decades - you have given me a lifetime of happiness. 💙 I'm so glad this channel just popped up on my feed!

Tepid. I think I've played in one of her compositions. That referenced - a little - early Schoenberg, but in a similarly tepid fashion. Nothing original, but that isn't the fashion. I'm now going to listen to some real Martinu and Grazyna Bacewicz rather than the teenage pastiche.

theres certain english greatness that manages to be understated, while others countries its obvious and in your face. With time and life experience I've managed to learn that true greatness in countries and people is the one spoken quietly and not screamed.
