One can understand Britten's being besotted w Percy Grainger's music, so individualistic, so merry, tender, & nostalgic at once. Sensitive, free, melodic... all that speaks of "a time there was". What beauty! Many thanks.

Am 9. Oktober 2016 gastierte die Academy in der Philharmonie Köln. Genau 7 Tage zuvor war Sir Neville Marriner verstorben. Als Zugabe spielte das Orchester dieses wunderschöne Lieblingswerk des Maestros im Gedenken - kein Dirigent am Pult, lediglich ein Strauß roter Rosen wurde dort platziert. Alle 2000 Zuhörer waren ergriffen und nicht nur ich hatte Tränen in den Augen. Das werde ich nie vergessen. 🥹
