Weight bearing status will vary depending surgery/site of fracture/consultant instructions etc. Most routine fractures would encourage progressing to full weight bearing around the 6 week mark.

Everyone will be slightly different. Generally I go for 3 lots of 12-20reps dependant on difficulty of exercise for the patient in the earlier to mid stages. Later stages may differ dependant on sport , patient level and many other factors !

Thanks for this video. My wrist got fractured in a road accident 2 months ago. It was a colles fracture in radius bone of left wrist. Dr removed the cast after 6 weeks and I am currently undergoing physiotherapy and its been 3 weeks now, i cant even lift a 5 kg dumbbell now. Is it going to be like this forever? How can i restore my grip strength and lifting ability that i used to have before injury, i used to do dumbbell curls using 10-12-15 kg dumbbells in gym and i know deter lifting 5 Kg dumbbell. Any suggestion or word of advice?

Day 17 postop - still some swelling and don’t have full extension, although pretty close to it. Can do all your exercises for a few days now, I’m just too afraid to stand on injured leg alone :) Finally waking with one crutch, can walk up to 4km a day + doing exercises twice daily and stretching knee arbitrary number of times a day whenever I feel like it. And while extension feels like a very tangible goal, I was so proud when I could 1) take a standing shower 2) make myself a tea and carry it by myself 3) go for a walk and get a haircut in a nearby salon I’m sure we all will get there! Thank you for exercises!

Regarding first exercise the quads are primarily main for extendeding knee . why focus on hamstring primarily to extend knee? doesnt that cause mechanic imbalance .
@sportrehabguide
@sportrehabguide Ай бұрын
Not entirely sure what you mean by mechanical imbalance. The hamstring extender is a low load stretch to assess the ability of the hamstring to tolerate eccentric lengthening in early stages of rehab.

Reps & Sets?
@sportrehabguide
@sportrehabguide Ай бұрын
I tend to suggest to patients, lower weight/body weight 3x 15-20 in earlier to mid stages to moderate fatigue. Close to failure 3x 8-12 towards end stage rehab. Don’t work with elite athletes anymore but dependant on sport would say they’re doing a lot more explosive work such as 2-6 rep max towards return to sport

Hi, your videos are very helpful - I had a full rupture last October and just found your videos which is quite a shame as I missed out on important info I could have used during those early stages. I'm at the stage I can do two leg calf raise but just don't have the strength to do move on to one, so I guess I'm at a stage where this video comes in. My injured calf is still a lot smaller than the good one, I don't know if that's an indication I'm ready (or not) for this stage of rehab. Unfortunately, my rehab has been very slow and at times one step forward and two steps backwards as I push a little too much and have to give it a rest to allow the tightness to go away. One last thing is, if I do "self"-Thompson test, plantarflexion on the injured side is far less than the good leg, especially when it feels too tight after pushing it too much. Is that something I should be worried about? I mean, does plantarflexion not recover to its full extent as soon as achilles tendon is fully attached to themselves? Many thanks in advance.

Stupidly I ran the Christmas 2023 park run knowing that my Achilles had some soreness / tenderness. After a mile I started limp running as it started getting worse, I kept running until someone passing said, don’t run any more. So stopped & limped back home. Later that day I got a sudden explosion of pain around the back of my lower calf, i can only describe it as a bullet going into the back of my lower leg. I thought maybe with the stress of the day, my calf had torn. I am still limping & can only walk around 2 miles My Achilles is swollen, still sore & looks nothing like my other Achilles in comparison. I thought maybe I had a torn lower calf muscle & some Achilles tendinitis. I am now into my 11th week, thinking I have actually torn my Achilles. My fault self diagnosing, as I’ve lost all faith in the NHS with previous experiences. So two things, is the damage still going to show up on a scan? I or is it too late for that. Secondly some advice to other runners 🏃‍♂️ Don’t run if you have tender or sore Achilles as you could end up being out for months 😢

@Steph-wq9it Ай бұрын
@@samuelstevens1129 Thanks for being so positive 💀 it’s true I should have listened to my body. But how many of us play sports or run with injuries, pro’s & amateurs? My point was, Achilles are not to be messed with. I have just started some 3 mile, slow flat runs after 4 months out, once a week. Back of Achilles tendon is still swollen, but more or less pain free. Yes it’ll never likely be the same again. Ruptures in that area can’t ever heal properly, due to lack of blood flow around tendon. But I remain optimistic not pessimistic 😃

What about about popping with leg extensions (leg curls) how do you go about managing those?
@sportrehabguide
@sportrehabguide 3 ай бұрын
When patient ready for curls can do laying on front with band around ankle fixed somewhere. However, find that really hard for patients to set up. Usually suggest curls with a Swiss ball or at a gym on leg curl machine
