FLstudio with a generic soundfont I stumbled on to. Using an actual genesis tracker would allow for a far greater freedom with the instruments, but you'd also have to first create those instruments in the built in synth, and I'm also more comfortable with midi style producing than trackers.

Genesis / Mega Drive had their own way to produce music, and like with many things and what my late dad used to say: "It's not the size of the tool, it's how you use it that matters"

I'm not actually very good at creating original tunes, since I get writer's blocked very fast and can't pace the tracks properly. Also having a pretty good memory for audio everything I do makes me think "This sounds like it's already done by someone else".

@@rektaalipalo Pretty much everything already has been done by someone else, so don't worry about that. You don't have to come up with something completely original for it to be good.

@@CottonModem Story of my life. Happens even with covers even though you don't have to come up with the melody yourself, But if the motivation is gone, it's gone.

I took a peek and judging from the video it sounds like it's using something similar that Sega Genesis used, where the tracker doesn't use imported instruments like the SNES does, but rather relies more on onboard waveform instruments that you need to separately modify to get the sound you want, similar to how NES does it's music tracks.

@@Jac2Mac Someone actually did make a generic mega drive/genesis soundfont that I've been exploring a bit, so maybe in the far future, though there already exists one piece like that on youtube.
