Very happy Canon Pro-1000 user here. When I first got it I followed the advice of printing gurus online and strived to print something (maybe even just a nozzle check page) every two to four days at max. Then one day I was out of town for travel for a few months and didn't print anything. Surely when I started it again and printed something, the printer did a short cleaning cycle but then it was completely back to normal, no issues at all. I've actually never had any clogs at all in the ~four years I've had it. And I completely stopped panicking about not using it very frequently. The printer knows how to take care of itself, sometimes it'll run a short cleaning cycle and then make absolutely flawless prints. The automatic feed tray can fit several cut sheets (I've done up to 20 of Canon Pro Luster). I mostly use fine art paper and canvas from the manual feed tray, which it does well too (but it's one sheet at a time in the manual feed tray).

@@phototocanvaspdx I usually print canvas prints both from photos and art. I usually print with mirrored borders. I often have difficulty with the print printing to my set size usually because my defined size is not correct when using roll paper. This has something to defining media size versus print size that is confusing me. Checking the auto role seems to help ensure the media or paper type is long enough. Often I have a situation where everything will indicate the print is going to print the right size but once the print is finished it may be incorrect. I know it is specific, but a step by step video on setting up for canvas prints that would help ensure the print will be the right size when printed. Also if it is possible a video on how to do multiple photos on canvas wraps laying them out to save canvas. Not sure that can be done like you can with regular prints. I’m sure I can come up with more ideas but these are the ones I seem to have trouble with in ultimate version. I watch the videos Qimage does, and while helpful, I found you much easier to follow and understand. I’m using a Canon 4100. I’m also using an Epson p700 . I am ordering the Qimage Pro for Mac today.

what would be the difference between spraying the coating on vs rolling it on? Why would you have to put the gloss on first if rolling it?
@phototocanvaspdx22 күн бұрын
Rolling runs the risk of ink roll off, where the ink sticks to your roller and makes a mess of the print. It's also easy to catch crap floating in the air. Gloss varnish does a better job of preventing cracking. So the idea of gloss first is that it will seal the print better then you can top it with matte. I did tests in the past rolling matte GLAMOUR varnish (also breathing color but specifically for rolling, dries slower and self levels). The matte failed miserably without gloss first. With Timeless I spray matte regularly with no other varnish first, but have not done much testing with rolling timeless as I dont have a need.

Book publishing printers only print CMYK. The massive size printers these companies use are behind in technology, especially in book printing. When I work with book publishers, put the RGB and CMYK duel computer screen. CMYK dulls many colours especially blue. Therefore, I always have to tweak the CMYK in order to resemble RGB. Not always successful, because of many of the RGB colours are thrown out. These huge printers in book publishing are CMYK. You just do the best you can. My home printer supports RGB and print with no troubles and the colours are spot on!
@boristahmasian960422 күн бұрын
Good points. I thought all inkjet printers (Epson, Canon, HP) use CMYK anyway. My own personal experience, I was told for inkjet printing not to convert my RGB to CMYK many, many years ago. The explanation was that the printer's internal driver do the conversion and do it very well. I did try RGB to CMYK conversion before printing on my own printer and I was not happy with the results. So I always send RGB files. I do not remember what I submitted for a book to be printed (by MagCloud) with HP Indigo digital printers. HP Indigo is a CMYK printer. The book is a 90-page spiral bound 11x17 book and it looks fantastic. Overall the pages/images have a slight red tint to them only noticeable if compared to computer screen or inkjet print. The blues look great though.

Great video. I have 2 questions. 1)What does happen if one sends you for print an image edited in the sRGB space? Will the colors of the print differ markedly from the colors of the soft proof we visualized on our calibrated screen? For instance, will they be less vivid? 2) Before sending images for print (on a printer operating in the AdobeRGB 1998 space), should we always do the soft proofing in the AdobeRGB 1998 space, even if the image was firstly edited in the sRGB space? Thanks for all the information you provide. 👍
@phototocanvaspdx24 күн бұрын
First of all chances are your monitor, even if it's calibrated is only showing sRGB. Unless you have a fancy one. But the bottom line is if you send an image in sRGB it will look the same even if I was to convert is to Adobe RGB 1998. You cant add that information back to an imaged. Depending on the work I need to do on the image I will generally leave it in sRGB if thats how it comes as converting it to adobe is a waste of time. My printer doesnt HAVE to print in adobe, thats just the gamut it is capable of printing. I wouldnt say images in sRGB will be less vivid, there will just be a smaller amount of visible saturations of colors. So it you start in sRGB, just leave it be. You can add vibrancy in PS to get your image as you want it. Does that. make sense?
@Launyx24 күн бұрын
@@phototocanvaspdx Thanks a lot for your detailed answer👍! My monitor is an ASUS ProArt PA279 CRV that has a 99 % AdobeRGB coverage. When I ''assign'' the AdobeRGB color profile to an image created in the sRGB space, then that image undergoes an increase in color saturation, as well as in contrast. Still, given what you said, I think I am gonna stick to the sRGB color profile... Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! 👍

I use a pro 4000 and a pro 6100 and they are great for Canvas. You can buy some canvases that don’t require ceiling, but I have stopped using those and switch to varnishing all of my canvases as the quality is just much better. If you don’t want to seal, you should really be using solvent or latex inks, but those are not as good for art and photo printing.

@jozsefbognar5896Ай бұрын
A bit simplified and confusing statement. Just turning down the monitor brightness is not enough, it does not bring brighter print on its own. We need to edit at a lower monitor brightness level, so we can properly adjust the brightness of the image for print to ensure the print looks appropriate.
@phototocanvaspdxАй бұрын
Sorry for the confusion, I figured editing at a lower brightness was a given. I meant keep your monitor at 50% all the time.
@jozsefbognar5896Ай бұрын
Thanks for the clarification. It’s clear to me but for some beginners it might be confusing. As for 50% brightness, 50% of what? Would it not be better to say numeric value of the monitor brightness, like 60…80…100 nit, or whatever?
@phototocanvaspdxАй бұрын
@ I don’t believe it would. Different monitors have different scales. 50% simply means half way between the minimum and max. This is just a simple guideline because the vast majority of people have their monitor set way too bright. Serious photographs that print should be using a calibrated monitor.

ok, question on this. I have printer at home and I am making some 8x10 prints for an art walk coming up using 8.5x11 photo rag paper. I got a really good deal on these nice frames from target and figured I would go this route this year to save a little money. with the discount it's almost $13 a frame. They are thin white frames 14x18 matted to 8x10 image. They look really really good for the price. However the image size isn't exactly 8x10 in the center, it is a little smaller. I assume to compensate and cover for many 8x10 images including a border or not. My question is, do I go ahead and just make an 8x10 image size on the 8.5x11 paper and let the matte cover the image a little on each side. Or should I just measure the inside of the matte and make the image size of the print to that size. say like 7.75x 9.75 or whatever the size is. I am torn on what to do because if the customer decides to get it reframed personally I would prefer the actual image size to be 8x10 myself. or does it really even matter or am I just overthinking it lol. Thanks for any help. Loved your video and will subscribe

I am not in your category of printer user, but I do regularly print on canvas with my Canon Pro-100 for retail sales items with 13"x19" capable format. I refill my carts to make printing affordable and otherwise couldn't make it profitable. An upgrade to a Pro-200 eliminates this option. In 8 years I've had to replace one printer - cheaper than any canvas capable printer out there. I'm fully in the thumbs up crowd for Canon. I also have an Epson ET-2700 that is nothing but a headache. Yes, the tank tech makes it cheaper on consumables, but the heads simply can't keep from clogging, and the colors can only be charitably described as weak. My 2¢ worth.
