I tried Baking Soda and sugar instead of molasses. It came out clear with a neutral flavor. Added some ginger bug and looking forward to tasting it. Not in favor of molasses. Found the baking soda makes the growth explode.

Don't the egg yolks make it a frozen custard instead of ice cream? If I am remembering right, that is the ingredient that makes the difference between the two.
@Lmr6789s27 күн бұрын
You know what, I never knew about frozen custard. I had to look it up so yes technically it would be called a frozen custard but most people who add egg yolks to their ice cream that I've seen just say icecream so I guess majority of us don't know about frozen custard lol. It's like ice cream but creamier.

@Lmr6789s my stepmother went through a summer of obsessively trying ice cream and frozen custard recipes to try to get the perfect cold treat a while back, and I learned of frozen custard in the process, as one of her guinea pigs. Now you know! 😊

Isn't the raw egg dangerous?
@Lmr6789sАй бұрын
Great question! I raise my own chickens, so feel perfectly fine eating them this way and many other desserts and recipes have raw eggs. If you are at all concerned about raw eggs you can buy pasteurised eggs from the shops instead 🙂 The eggs give it a creamier, smoother consistency. And because everything is staying nice and cold it's not really allowing bacteria to thrive and grow as it would if it was warm or hot. Do whatever feels right to you though 🙂 Thanks for the question!

My mind went to The First Four Years where she says “The rich gets ice in the summer and the poor get theirs in the winter” when she ironically cynically laughs about getting their crop ruined by a hail storm in the summer.

I don't really have an exact formula I just feed it heavily flour so let's say 2 cups of flour and maybe a cup or so of water. I add less water and slowly add more as needed after giving it a good initial mix until it's the consistency I want

Hi Lindsay. How many times can I use the Kefier grains. If I soak them, then strain, feed with sugar and add water, how long before I need to replace the grains. Thank you
@Lmr6789s5 ай бұрын
You can use them forever. They keep replicating new ones. The dead ones will float and you can just remove those. But if taken care of properly they will keep going on and on 🙂

Wow. Thats incredible. If I wanted to double the qty I am making as my family absolutely loves it. Do I then get some more? Or just wait for the grains to multiply?

Hello..Thank you for the information Can you make kefir water without sugar? For better health
@Lmr6789s2 ай бұрын
Hi, the grains need to sugar to feed on. They eat it up. You can use coconut water as well. But without some sort of sugar the grains will die. The end product can be as sweet or not sweet as you like. Literally can turn almost into wine if you leave it long enough so there won't be any sugar left. Hope that helps!

Very nice. What did you use to fill those garden beds? I've seen people add sticks/branches/leaves to the bottom up to the middle, then top with soil. Trying to get ideas for my future garden beds :)
@Lmr6789s Жыл бұрын
We used hay bales at the bottom and then topped it with composted cow poo! But you can definetly do larger logs for 1/3 then finner sticks for the next 1/3 and then top the rest with soil 🙂 good luck with your future garden beds I keep wanting to add more lol!
@freedomgrows Жыл бұрын
@@Lmr6789s I definitely like your approach. More nutritious with the composted poo. And the hay breaks down quicker, which adds more nutrients to the soil. Cool, thank you for sharing 😊
@Lmr6789s Жыл бұрын
Yes the hay does break down faster but that also means you need to have more soil ready to top up your garden bed within about 3ish months instead of like a year with logs lol but it's working well 🙂

Oh thats so sad!! Did she get bitten by a snake by any chance? I've never had a chicken just die I have had chickens in the past show obvious signs of sickness and then die. So sorry for your loss! Not sure what else it could have been since you have other healthy chickens in your coop so couldn't be too cold depending where you are in the world?
