Tony said in his autobiography that while taping those video lessons, he was really having a hard time trying to break it down note by note as he always improvised when soloing. It's pretty much interesting to hear it from himself, it goes to show how creative he truly was.

Tony's techniques for lead guitar, other than being pentatonic, are very much his own. It's like he intentionally avoids that bend into roll, kind of technique most players were using back then, and still largely today. He set himself apart nicely.

Before he switched to the Gibson SG in the late 60's, he played a Fender Stratocaster. He is seen playing one during his brief stint with Jethro Tull in the Rolling Stones' 'Rock & Roll Circus' movie.
