You know I see Tom Seven and I really can only think of him as a person who as achieved peak self-actualization. I don't know if I have seen another human live in a way that carries such internal meaning.

At first I thought this video was going to be critical of people like Lorem Epsum, or critical of LLMs as the machine analog of such people. But in the end you created a tunable dial that lets you choose the philosophy that's right for you.

10:09 Clearly it's because the individual lines are not separate items. Just like we have "Deli hot & cold sandwiches" and "fresh salad hoagies" on the right, we have "dairy sundae's ice cream" and "milkshake's eat-in take-out" on the left.

I want to see your quantitative analysis of jokes and what jokes any LLM might be capable of making, which I'd think would have to include an estimation of the theoretical limit of the total quantity of logically-defensible jokes of quality level q extractable from extant human knowledge at time t.

After all that talk of being right rather than just looking right, I can't believe the slide of code you show at 13:00 has asymmetrical spacing inside the braces: a space between { and x, but none between img and }. I'm crestfallen.

Is it nerdsniping language nerds to use intentionally-incorrect things, like "antidote?" (Or the ten different grammatical, and punctuation or of spelling errors I'd included in this comment- tho I could of put more in). Spot them all? (Typing this comment is literally painful for myself. ):

Remember when people used to centre text by typing in a bunch of spaces beforehand? Or leave leading/trailing spaces AND centre-align it so that it still wasn't in the right place? That seems to have mostly gone away, but the scars are still there. I was somewhat taken aback but also pleased when I started using LyX to typeset my thesis and discovered that it not only wouldn't let you type a space at the beginning of a paragraph, but even displayed an error message in the status bar, telling you to read the tutorial. Also, people who send you emails with bits of the text in slightly different font sizes, inadvertently showing you where they copy/pasted stuff from other documents or messages.

3B1B got his maths wrong when calculating the best starting word for Wordle. It was at the peek of the Wordle craze and he probably hurried up to get his video out. It wasn't totally off the target but there was a better solution and he corrected himself in a follow-up video.

I met Donald Knuth on Tuesday! Or in the narcissist version, Donald Knuth met me on Tuesday! You make the claim at some point that, because you know too much about language/compiler design, you can't bear to do things the wrong way. Well, Knuth could bear it. TeX is famously broken as a programming language.

on screenspace reflections: people don't do it because they're too lazy to make proper reflections or because they don't care enough. they do it because a choice needs to be made at some point: do you want to pay 8ms per frame for proper world space reflections or do you want to pay 0.5ms per frame for screenspace reflections.

The idea of this video had been alluded to by Knuth in the TeXbook where he is quoting Bernard Shaw: When a proof has been sent me with two or three lines so widely spaced as to make a grey band across the page, I have often rewritten the passage so as to fill up the lines better; but I am sorry to say that my object has generally been so little understood that the compositor has spoilt all the rest of the paragraph instead of mending his former bad work. GEORGE BERNARD SHAW, in The Dolphin (1940).

Hoagies looks like it has the -ies plural; a more engaged level of pluralization than the simple additive -s. Although situations can be found where this sequence of letters has an apostrophe ("Millie's cookies"), as a plural it is a clear unit within the word that cannot be conceived by your garden variety fascia painter as a candidate for rogue apostrophization. Whereas when slapping an -s on the end you might as well indicate that it isn't usually there. Milkshake's appearance is unquestionably that of having had an -s slapped on the end. Now, I've no idea how the singular of hoagies is spelt. Lorem Epsom was probably not considering whether it follows the pattern of Tragedy or of Cookie when he painted his sign. But the video is about linguistic pattern matching, and that's what our friend Mr Epsom did. He's just not very good at it.
