Great in-depth video. These machines exist because they are relatively cheap and Home Depot sells them. However they don't last as the old machines do...
@downtoearthproblems11 күн бұрын
With all my experience repairing machines, I can usually fix just about anything, but these machines were beyond hope. The issue is, they came out of the factory with poor engineering. While I believe the engineers are capable, the real problem is the pressure to keep costs down. It’s a shame because it affects the overall quality and performance.

Large pulley roller has no groove to keep the belt on terrible 😮
@downtoearthproblems11 күн бұрын
Wow, I was honestly shocked when I saw the large pulley with no groove-just smooth! It’s crazy because it should have one to ensure proper function. But with these newer, cheaper models, they cut corners like that. I think the system would work fine if the transmission wasn’t leaking so much, though. Thanks for sharing, really eye-opening!

I once had this washer and when it started mis behaving i just decided to not work on it cuz i knew it would be a headache so i found someone selling their samsung front load washer for 200 dollars in my neighborhood and just bought it. Probably one of the best purchases ive ever made. Ive had it a few years now and use it multiple times every day (i live in a house with a quite a few people so theres ALWAYS laundry to be done ugh lol) and ive not on e have had a problem with it. About a year after using this ge washer it started squeaking during the wash cycle during the slow pulse mode of the wash cycle which wasnt really like too annoying but i couldnt ever figure out why it was squeaking, then one day it stopped draining and would shut off during the wash cycle randomly. I was just done with repairing appliances around thehouse cuz i just got done replacing a pump motor on the dish washer for the 2nd time in maybe a year and had to fix the damn oven. I couldnt deal with fixing something else. Im lucky to have found the samaung washer for sale by someone in my area for that price cuz its one if the high end washers from samsung.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally understand the frustration with appliances that don’t seem to hold up as they should. It’s true that many brands are manufactured by the same companies, often using similar parts, which can affect quality. Speed Queen definitely has a strong reputation for durability and simplicity compared to a lot of modern machines. Hopefully, manufacturers start listening to feedback. It seems most appliances are beautiful on the outside, but junk on the inside.

Can someone please tell me how I get the top of the washer detached so I can get to the drum?????
@downtoearthproblems2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! To detach the top of the washer and get access to the drum, you'll usually need to remove the screws or clips holding the top panel in place. Many models have screws located at the back or inside the lid area, or there may be clips you can release with a putty knife. Once those are undone, you can lift the top to get to the drum. Be sure to unplug the washer before starting for safety! Hope this helps. Check Out Video #3 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHm6pZWCj9qJqJI

Lol that’s great. Fixed it with a new washer. Yeah these new ones are junk, you fix one think and another problem presents itself. I don’t see a way to fix the new transmissions, they have to be replaced. On the older models I was able to refill with oil and reseal it with gasket maker just like you would an older car transmission. The worst problem you can have on a new one is with the motherboard. Only the manufacturer will have the software to program those. Everything these days is heading towards manufacturer only fixes.

That's definitely the easy way get it working is replace it with a better one. I'm having the same dilemma as I made the mistake of trusting the G.E. name which in years past I had very good luck with. Todays appliances are obviously assembled from cheap Chinese materials.
@downtoearthproblems10 ай бұрын
I would have preferred to repair this GE washing machine but unfortunately the transmission was poorly made, that's why the oil was leaking after a year and a half. The motor is much too small because there was beautiful huge stainless steel tub on, it was very impressive, but with such a small motor it wasn't being turned properly so because of these two reasons I just couldn't repair it so unfortunately. I was forced to junk it and I do feel disappointed by the quality of General Electric and I think the engineers from General Electric are fine but I think it's the advertising and the financial problems because the people buy these machines don't really understand they're not made together very well.
@terryvlunsford161010 ай бұрын
@@downtoearthproblems sadly the cheap appliances have become like cheap radios & TVs a few years back. They've become disposable throwaways. At todays service, labor & parts prices it doesn't take much to add up to the original price paid for a machine that was less than $500.00 .My GE is also deafening loud in the spin cycle. It would be tolerable in a separate laundry room, basement or porch, however mine is right off the kitchen.
@TheStevengob12311 ай бұрын
I despise this washer with every fiber of my being. The first time I ever used it (about 5 years ago), the belt slipped off. Fixed that easy enough. The water fill sensor can detect when the water level is high enough to know when not to fill anymore, but the actual filling happens on a timer, so if you have bad water pressure, you end up with too little water. No matter how hard you try to balance your load, it's gonna put the load severely off balance during the wash. And the thing that pisses me off the most is that the lid lock is guaranteed to get wet and malfunction, forcing you to have to wait for it to dry before it will run at all. It's a little after 3 in the morning as I write this, I have work at 6, kids have school, and I've been trying to get the first load washed since right after dinner. I absolutely dread doing laundry because of this stupid thing. Edit: I just want to add that if there is a laundromat in hell, the walls are lined with these stupid machines.

None of this surprises me in the least. I saw a video of a Maytag Commercial washing machine with the transmission disassembled. The belt should go on rather easily as you are turning the pulleys, so possibly you have the wrong belt for the machine. But if it's the correct part number. I will try it again put it on the small pulley first and make sure the grooves are coming in correctly and then force it over the smooth big pulley.

If you look up the control boards on the Speed Queen washers, they can cost $400 or more, and that's wholesale. In addition, manufacturers are only required to supply parts for 7 years by law. So, after 7 yrs, I've seen many things become unavailable. So, 7 yrs is the realistic life expectancy on any appliance, unless you're very lucky.

@downtoearthproblems ...I don't blame you for buying the Speed Queen. Good luck. It is no doubt constructed better. I'm just frustrated when I can't get a new control board for an otherwise fixable appliance, or it's prohibitively expensive. I have a gas furnace that's 68 yrs old, and some people say I'm probably paying through the nose for gas, but it has no electronics to fail and is more reliable in general. I'm not replacing it until it can't be repaired. My neighbor replaced his, and 10 yrs later, he had to replace it again because the main control board failed and was discontinued. I doubt that he ever recovered his investment in a new furnace. This is the junk society we live in today.

Unscrew and remove the punch latch from the lid and stuff it into the lid lock. Then the washer will run with the lid open. Doesn't matter if your lid lock gets splashed though. You'll have to wait about 6 hours for it to dry enough to run again. I'm pretty sure a lot of people encounter the lid lock issue and automatically assume they need a new one when they just need to prop the lid open and wait a few hours. If you've already replaced it before and still have the old one, try switching back to the old one and see if it runs. I'm considering buying a spare lid lock for just that reason. It's actually easy enough to change without dismantling the top. Just be careful not to drop it in the space between the tank wall and the barrel.

@@TheStevengob123 I had the actual piece of the plastic nub bust off that stops the lid from opening and apparently without that sliding shut in the part it doesn't complete the circuit just clicks then quits. Instead of buying another one I ended up taking it apart, then doing the baking soda and super glue trick. Then just re-made/attached old one that broke inside that horribly made part and filed down the edges so it would move even more smoothly with the piss poor electro magnetic thing they got in there that is so badly made it flops around so much it is probably the cause for most failures of those failures. The work around all of this is just a jumper between the circuit. All I can definitely say is they do not make them like they used to and that is absolutely bat shit crazy to be saying thinking back how quality was 15 yrs ago really wasn't all that good then either but at least the machine would last longer than 4 yrs.
