Great in-depth video. These machines exist because they are relatively cheap and Home Depot sells them. However they don't last as the old machines do...

With all my experience repairing machines, I can usually fix just about anything, but these machines were beyond hope. The issue is, they came out of the factory with poor engineering. While I believe the engineers are capable, the real problem is the pressure to keep costs down. It’s a shame because it affects the overall quality and performance.

I once had this washer and when it started mis behaving i just decided to not work on it cuz i knew it would be a headache so i found someone selling their samsung front load washer for 200 dollars in my neighborhood and just bought it. Probably one of the best purchases ive ever made. Ive had it a few years now and use it multiple times every day (i live in a house with a quite a few people so theres ALWAYS laundry to be done ugh lol) and ive not on e have had a problem with it. About a year after using this ge washer it started squeaking during the wash cycle during the slow pulse mode of the wash cycle which wasnt really like too annoying but i couldnt ever figure out why it was squeaking, then one day it stopped draining and would shut off during the wash cycle randomly. I was just done with repairing appliances around thehouse cuz i just got done replacing a pump motor on the dish washer for the 2nd time in maybe a year and had to fix the damn oven. I couldnt deal with fixing something else. Im lucky to have found the samaung washer for sale by someone in my area for that price cuz its one if the high end washers from samsung.

It’s great you found a good deal on a replacement. Good luck with the new washer.
@terryvlunsford161010 ай бұрын
That's definitely the easy way get it working is replace it with a better one. I'm having the same dilemma as I made the mistake of trusting the G.E. name which in years past I had very good luck with. Todays appliances are obviously assembled from cheap Chinese materials.

I would have preferred to repair this GE washing machine but unfortunately the transmission was poorly made, that's why the oil was leaking after a year and a half. The motor is much too small because there was beautiful huge stainless steel tub on, it was very impressive, but with such a small motor it wasn't being turned properly so because of these two reasons I just couldn't repair it so unfortunately. I was forced to junk it and I do feel disappointed by the quality of General Electric and I think the engineers from General Electric are fine but I think it's the advertising and the financial problems because the people buy these machines don't really understand they're not made together very well.
@terryvlunsford161010 ай бұрын
@@downtoearthproblems sadly the cheap appliances have become like cheap radios & TVs a few years back. They've become disposable throwaways. At todays service, labor & parts prices it doesn't take much to add up to the original price paid for a machine that was less than $500.00 .My GE is also deafening loud in the spin cycle. It would be tolerable in a separate laundry room, basement or porch, however mine is right off the kitchen.

If you look up the control boards on the Speed Queen washers, they can cost $400 or more, and that's wholesale. In addition, manufacturers are only required to supply parts for 7 years by law. So, after 7 yrs, I've seen many things become unavailable. So, 7 yrs is the realistic life expectancy on any appliance, unless you're very lucky.

Before I bought the new speed queen I saw an old Whirlpool the gentleman we're selling it used, and it looked very good but it was 35 years old I so I asked my wife if she wants a 35 year old washing machine or a new speed queen of course she wanted the new one so I hope this machine holds up as good as my old GE but at least this new speed queen is much heavier then the new GE washing machine. Speed queen has has a transmission you can take it apart. I don't know about the electronics. So if this isn't gonna work very well I'm just gonna buy an old Whirlpool 35 years old I can fix that. So far the new speed queen is working excellent.
@Beefcake20 Жыл бұрын
@downtoearthproblems ...I don't blame you for buying the Speed Queen. Good luck. It is no doubt constructed better. I'm just frustrated when I can't get a new control board for an otherwise fixable appliance, or it's prohibitively expensive. I have a gas furnace that's 68 yrs old, and some people say I'm probably paying through the nose for gas, but it has no electronics to fail and is more reliable in general. I'm not replacing it until it can't be repaired. My neighbor replaced his, and 10 yrs later, he had to replace it again because the main control board failed and was discontinued. I doubt that he ever recovered his investment in a new furnace. This is the junk society we live in today.

None of this surprises me in the least. I saw a video of a Maytag Commercial washing machine with the transmission disassembled. The outer shell was sheet metal and the internal parts were plastic and nylon. I was a bit surprised as they cost significantly more than the residential grade appliances. You sometimes get what you pay for.

@@downtoearthproblems I don’t doubt that for a minute. It looked like it was made to be disposable. I’m very apprehensive about the new appliances because the quality just isn’t there. Speed Queen is a very well built machine. You ought to get years of use and abuse out of it.

I'll never ever buy another product from them again. Absolutely garbage quality and didn't even last a year despite only using it once a week for just over a year. To anyone else out there never buy from this brand unless you want to buy a new one and spend another grand within a year.

Lol that’s great. Fixed it with a new washer. Yeah these new ones are junk, you fix one think and another problem presents itself. I don’t see a way to fix the new transmissions, they have to be replaced. On the older models I was able to refill with oil and reseal it with gasket maker just like you would an older car transmission. The worst problem you can have on a new one is with the motherboard. Only the manufacturer will have the software to program those. Everything these days is heading towards manufacturer only fixes.

Have the same wager. No problems with the motors. Where is your belt between pulleys? Belt is probably worn. Also check the water pump bottom left. Might be clogged
@downtoearthproblems Жыл бұрын
You're right the belt is bad but the real problem is the transmission is leaking oil. But even with a good belt. The motors too small to spin heavy clothing in the tub. Thank you for making a comment.

I own this exact same GE washer. It’s very temperamental and only works when it wants to, and when it does actually work, it sounds like it’s going to take off and fly away when it’s in spin cycle. I think I’ve watched almost every YT video ever made about them thinking that I’m going to have this “omg I finally got it diagnosed and fixed it” moment.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a tough time with it. Old GE was good, now beautiful on the outside, junk on the inside. It seems like many brands prioritize style over durability these days. It’s tough when you invest in something that doesn’t perform well.
