Hi John. Which of these speakers do you think pair the best with Marantz PM8006? I am using with oberon 3 currently but want to get ur opinion if there is a better fit for that amp.

Rarely do I see a loudspeaker and instinctively know that it achieves everything a loudspeaker should - fidelity to the original source. For me it happened with the JBL L100 Century, the Townshend Glastonbury 2, Apogee Duetta Signature, Rountree Acoustics Omnimon, and I feel sure, this one. It's where the leap forward in its design principles lays all else aside, yet endures for all time. I can't afford it, but I should like to hear it

I would've wished to see how well they stack up against their obvious competitor, Bang&olufsen. The beolab 8 are mad expensive - but these here easily beat the price tag if you want a stereo pair. While the Beolab8 arguably look better still (to me that's not even a question, but tastes differ). Or how good are they against the Beolab 28? Because they do come closer in price to that beast than the Beolab 8.

Still Have Two 33/303 Set Up's At My Gaff, Well One 33 is Currently Being serviced By Those Nice People At Quad.. Had Them Both For Almost 50 Years. Would i Change ? Only if i Win The Lottery And Then The New 33/303 Would Be Winging It's Way To me... Classic Stuff .

Nice selection. I tested the Sonus and B&W's plus a couple of others no here. I ended up with the Triangle Comete 40ths. My room is quite small and I listen to mainly classical music and they had the most natural tone of the instruments and sound great at moderate volume. The KEFs and some of the others needed decent volume before they woke up.

I have had a Pioneer AV amp running Mission speakers for years now. In my opinion these sound better than any sound bars I have heard. Thats my opinion. Good informative video John

If you have Home Assistant on your network, you can use the AirCast add-on. What it does is it takes any chromecast device and it creates a virtual Airplay device out of it that you can Airplay to. I used with a Google Chromecast to play audio via Roon via Airplay because it allowed me to group the Chromecast with any other Airplay-enabled device, including Sonos speakers. From what I know, there is no other way to group Chromecast and Sonos devices. I think this should work with WiiM Ultra as well, as it supports Chromecast. It might require some effort to set up. Search for "aircast home assistant" and you should find it.

I saw you rated the Naim atom. I can get one of these for 2x the price of the M1. Is that worth it? How do you find the sound compared and do you think they have similar bass? Thanks

Only you can decide if it's worth it 🙂. The Naim is a class A/B amplifier rather that class D in the Marantz. Class D has it's place and has come a long way, a good way to get a lot of power into a small box as it's very efficient - a good class D amp like the M1 sounds lovely and is powerful enough to drive pretty demanding speakers. Very generally speaking, most people consider class A/B to be a fuller, warmer sound and it's the most tried, tested and popular amplifier class at the moment. It's all down to personal taste, price points, quality etc. Plus with the Naim Uniti Atom you are paying for the excellent high quality display and control interface on top, something the Marantz M1 does not have. The Naim also has Chromecast if that is something you might use, the Marantz does not. It depends on many things, including what speakers you would like to connect. The only way to tell what is right for you is to try them both in a store if you can. I can say I would have no problem recommending either amplifier, both are excellent for their price point. - John

@Peter-Tysonthank you for the great response! Yeah just saw that they are selling the Naims for 54% off retail which made me interested. Definitely prefer a warmer/ easer listening sound. The only thing holding me back is that it doesn’t have any EQ control. Looking at the MoFi soundsource 8 a speaker that I believe is pretty easy to power and 8ohms not like the Kefs where they are harder to power. I wouldn’t be able to justify paying the $4400AUD difference from retail but this is only $1470AUD. Unfortunately I can’t test the Naim as no one locally stocks them which is also interesting but they all stock Marantz. Thanks

With the level of your speakers and the sound you prefer the Naim may be a better fit for you. Don't worry about EQ controls, the Naim keeps it clean and hi-fi and will allow your speakers to do what they do best. Just play with placement of the speakers, distance to walls etc to dial in the bass. - John

I like the way the Super Linton's stand can be used as a base for the Quad 303s (obviously having 2 x 303s is best) thus reducing speaker cable runs and allowing the use of line level XLR-terminated cables to attach to the 33. I have a 44/405 combo older than my children that is still going strong although it could do with a re-cap etc to bring it up to modern standards.

Personally I think the Dubut DB 6.3 are amazing value for money, that's what I would choose. The Monitor Audio are very nice too, very dynamic and the best build quality and nicest looking of the 3. - John.

I have Sugden amplifiers. Au.51 pre- and power amplifiers. DAC is also from the Au.51 series. Turntable is a Linn LP12. Loudspeakers Rogers LS3/5A and LS5/9 on backbreaking Target R3 and R2 stands The only non British made component is the CD transport. It’s Japanese. CEC. Good to see new British made audio components for a reasonable price. Good luck with Fell Audio!

Nice video. The guarantee is only three years which is insufficient as Meridian does not offer long term support for very long after units are discontinued (I have experienced this and you can probably find threads about the F80/M80). B&O are getting better about long term support (they were terrible) and Meridian should be following their lead. Five years should be a minimum on a product like this and parts/repairs should be possible up to seven years.

This seems like a really nice product. I bought the WiiM Amp about a year ago and I hooked up my bookshelf speakers with the speaker wire acting subwoofer out. This thing is rock solid or not even bought another one for a different location. This device seems like it could have a lot of potential but it is only a preamp? And there’s no AirPlay ? The app I have now by the same company that does get AirPlay which is awesome because now I have a multiple good music

I have read in some marketing material that the 50w with 10A output makes it the equivalent of some other 100w amplifiers. Is there any truth in this? I’m concerned that the 50w may not be enough to power my JBL L82 88db speakers.

It will be more than enough. The JBL L82 has a recommendation of 25W to 150W. The Quad is sufficient quality to make them sing! - John.

I have just bought a wiim ultra. Up to now I simply had an arcam cd player connected to my denon amplifier which powers my passive B&W speakers. Should I connect my CD player via toslink or optical coax to the wiim ultra and then connect the wiim ultra to my amplifier? Or should I just stay with my cd player connected directly to my amp. What are the pros and cons of both? Would it even work? Many thanks

Hello, it's best to leave your CD player plugged into your amplifier as it is now. There is no gain in adding an extra step in the chain and going via the WiiM.

Are there any useability features if I do plug it into the wiim first, such as being able to use bluetooth headphones or other features of the phone app i haven't used yet? My existing denon amp, only has bluetooth in, not bluetooth out. Could i connect the RCA outs on my cd player direct to my amp but also connect a digital coax out on the cd player to the wiim amp. Then on the amp choose which sound source to play? Thanks in advance.

The Super Linton is reportedly 'leaner' than the 'warmer' regular Linton. Not to disparage Quad, which offers fine products but I suspect that the Musical Fidelity M5si Integrated Amplifier and the Rogue Audio Sphinx V3 "Magnum Upgraded" Integrated Amplifier would prove to be particularly good matches for the Super Linton's fidelity. Price wise, the Quad 33/303 combo is in the low $3k USD range. A competitive combo would be the Quad Artera Pre and Veri-Fi Audio's new Series One A40 Class A Amplifier. The Class A amp's 40 watts should easily match the Quad 303 Class AB's 50 watts.

I must admit I love the retro re-invention of 33/303. It just looks so cool. Love your enthusiasm for this system but given that Audiolab have just launched their 9000 Pre/Power and Quad also have the Artera Pre/Power which do you think are the best match for the Super Lintons?? It's a good problem to have though.

An interesting thing is that those stands are a perfect fit for 30cm Spendor SP1 and SP1/2. Just a fraction of an inch too small for BC1 but probably not noticeable.

Well , some of my gear . Kenwood ( Trio) KA 3300 , Marantz 1030, Marantz 6G speakers. Shure cartridge and Fidelity Research FR6se cartridge. There is more new and some older but the one you want, are you ready 😊 Garrard Zero 100 SB bought new $ 165 Australia and still use.

Just bought the sonos ace and b&w. I personally think I like the sound of the sonos ace a bit more. Vocals sound better on the sonos ace. It just stands out more. On the b&w its way more balanced and it feels like its a bit more compressed and the vocals do not really stand out. It seems like they are pretty much focused on the instruments. It might depend on the genre which suits better. The b&w are made of higher quality materials and they are pretty comfy. The sonos are also good, but leather just feels better than plastic…even if this is high quality plastic. But the noise cancelling and transparency mode on the sonos is endlessly better. The b&w anc and transparency work, not really good. But it works.

I'm new to Hi-fi equipment and recently bought a Marantz PM7000N with the 3030c, but I missing some bass here. Meds and Highs have some predominance and clarity, but the bass is always "further back". I always need to compensate on the Bass knob by 2/3 steps. Seems that bass starts to have some life when I increase volume but then highs as meds are way up there...

@ I’m using a Marantz PM7003 with a SMSL SU-1 DAC and I got plenty of bass in my 3030c. Sometimes I have to use the foam plugs too. I’m running it with “source direct” .
