I can't even find the words to describe what this song does to me. Some how so many years since I had listened to it somehow I was just thinking about this song so I found the CD popped in the car. Good thing I was parked when I listened to it. This has to be one the absolute saddest songs ever written. Patty Griffin is such a song writing genius. And a great performer as well. Sure wish I could have had the opportunity to hear her in concert.

Ive watched so many covers of this amazing song but they all seem to do over do it. The simplicity in the original will always be the best for me.

I can't stop listening to this. I'm an artist who surfs a tune over and over while doing what I do... wish I could show you what I came up with.

Hark: Do I hear the Scotch-Irish roots (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch-Irish_Americans) of bluegrass? The only thing missing is a penny whistle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZobXdnh5mLOme5o. The Scots-Irish heritage shows through.

I get this song - deep in my soul - I get it - God asks me to do things I don't feel worthy to do or capable of doing - but He whispers to me, and I follow - but when I look around me, and I see so many that are lost and I see my son beginning to sink into a life of drugs, knowing I've lost family to drugs - I wonder what difference I can make - but then He whispers that I am not alone - I must have faith - I must trust in my God.

Griffin writes so perceptively and sadly about marriages where co-existence seems to be all that kept the marriage together. I would love to hear her speak to that theme. I am thrice-divorced, because I couldn’t stay.
