So, why didn't he use the drill that he just made that jig for?
@rodenreyes63205 сағат бұрын
The bearing did it! Yes, must be a bearing and not just a hole...dowels should be steel, wood wears out.

I think you can make that no one piece you don't need two pieces. Is there a advantage of using two pieces and gluing them together.

For anyone watching, you don't have to use a full on bearing for this. It doesn't spin, it's glued in. Bearings cost more than a simple steel collar. A steel collar is like 1/4 the cost.
@BadOmenRGV18 сағат бұрын
But you can find bearings around the house for free if you or your kids have old roller skates, blades, skateboards, scooters, etc.
@sparrowhawk8110 сағат бұрын
@@BadOmenRGV Right, but a collar or even just a simple spacer or bushing at the hardware store is like $2 or less if you don't have any of that shit lying around, or you don't feel like ruining whatever you take it out of. I understand what you are saying.

Looks cool. How can you be sure the line is in the center of the bearing opening?
@ashleypowell806623 сағат бұрын
I think any imperfection in centering the bearing between the two dowels will be canceled out if you make sure the same dowel is against both mating faces. It'd be a good idea to mark the dowels to facilitate this. The drilled holes might not be perfectly centered between the edges, but it doesn't matter as along as they are both the same distance from their mating edges.
@Eun2k20 сағат бұрын
@@ashleypowell8066 I guess what I mean is, you can have the line in "the window" so to speak, but it might not be dead center in the bearing. I guess for what it's for it would be close enough and this jig is pretty versatile when it comes to different widths of boards. Nice idea.

This is far from the best solution. Cut a V out of a square block. Drill a hole thru in the center of the V. Now flip it around, put your round piece in the V and drill from the opposite side. 😉
