Maybe you have too many dogs for them all to feel settled. I suppose more dogs means more money for you but they may not be the happiest they can be,
@pawlitebestfriends76732 ай бұрын
@@sphinxtheeminx these dogs are very settled. This is their lifestyle and they all came to me because they needed me for various reasons, they are my pets so I spend a significant amount of money taking good care of them and the alternative for many would be not breathing. You can absolutely have a whole group of dogs be settled, and my whole group routinely helps to teach other dogs (often from single dog households) to settle

Good advice with the in-house leash! Not only does teaching calmness help in the home, it helps while out. Mine can run around like crazy with their friends, but when given the “chill out” command, they know it’s time to take a break. They get compliments on how well behaved they are. If only people understood what it really takes to raise good pups. Lol

I’ve enjoyed watching Louise. I have a question. We have a feral dog. I think he’s about the 1 year mark. A small long haired jack Russell x breed. He still has his manhood. When we first got him we couldn’t touch him. He was skitty and would bolt so fast at any noise. We’ve had him for 4 months and he’s gotten so much better. Comes into bed for cuddles. Mixed well with our dogs. He loves dogs much more than people. But we can not for the life of us get him on a leash. He’s not scared of it when it’s on the ground but if we go to clip or hold his collar he runs away. There’s not much available on KZbin to help us with actually getting a leash on him. Do you have any suggestions ?
@melissaspruce13248 ай бұрын
He has also destroyed everything we own and pees on everything so I’d love to be able to get him outside and excersize him properly
@pawlitebestfriends76738 ай бұрын
Sure! So it's tough if he has a lot of freedom because he will run away and you don't want to practice chasing him. You have a few ways you can go Start Marker training- I have a few videos on this but you can essentially mark 'yes' (similar to a clicker if you have seen people do that) for behaviors you like and reward it. That doesn't have to be obedience, that could be engagement, tolerating handling, even looking at you when you approach the leash instead of running away. So you can start Marker training a few days before, then approach the leash on the ground, mark 'yes!' and walk away, rinse and repeat a little while later as he does better than better. You can do that with basic handling exercises as well. As he already has started with freedom I would go that route, if he was coming into and out of a crate readily you could use a slip lead as he is coming out, but you don't want to chase him and break trust by putting too much pressure. You can also have a leash in bed that you could casually put on him while you are cuddling. For Marker training you can check out the Franklin videos as well as my video titled 'marker training'

Of course. So here Louise isn't able to escape, but I am also not putting a ton of social pressure on her as I am facing away, so emotionally she was nervous just being in my proximity, but I wasn't standing over her or reaching into the crate which would be very overwhelming for her

@pawlitebestfriends76739 ай бұрын
It really depends on where they are in the process and who the dog is what steps will be the most helpful, for some dogs it may be too much pressure so you will want to have built trust and understanding for your dog first so you can read if you are pushing them too hard

just stumbled on your channel and glad i did! you are good with these dogs. i wish i'd found this 5 weeks ago when we adopted a shelter rescue who is extremely nervous/under socialized. made the mistake of not crating the first week and i can see where may have been helpful. she is still fearful upon our 're-entry' into the home. and she still won't go outside to backyard on her own (or a lot of things on her own) but there's progress and we're hopeful for even more and more!! like louise, shiloh is SUPER SWEET! thx for your videos.

Great video! Working with feral dog now. Big challenge, not food motivated at all
@pawlitebestfriends767311 ай бұрын
They usually don't have much food motivation at first because fear inhibits hunger and food motivation (example- you probably aren't thinking about food while you are riding on a roller coaster, even if you were previously excited about a chili cheeseburger). Give them time and space to decompress and the good stuff comes from you (however far away you need to be, it could literally be opening a door to the room and tossing a handful of threats in), usually unfortunately for feral dogs our appearance signals negative things for them, such as social pressure and a reduction of their freedom because they feel less secure)

I was shocked a few months ago to read a comment where someone still believes in rubbing the dog's nose in their excrement as a punishment for eliminating in the house. She said it was highly effective and was angry any of us took issue with this approach. This was the "norm" when I was growing up and I never thought it taught the dog anything.

Euthanise the dog save a lot of time and money
@pawlitebestfriends7673 Жыл бұрын
That is definitely not off the table and I have already mentioned it to those responsible for him as a possible outcome. However, this is a dog whose aggression has been highly successful so in his mind he has no reason not to do it. We can give him a chance and see if we can find a good dog in there with some understanding and clear communication, but yes, euthanasia is an option even if it doesn't feel great

Maybe you are willing to help me? I got a feral dog about 3 days ago. She was in the woods from the age of about 3 months to now, 7 months. She's scared to come close and won't eat out of my hand. I can pet her head and even pick her up to take her outside to potty. She fights with a leash. When I went to bring her back in this morning, she nipped at me. I have no other way to take her out than to pick her up and I'm afraid if I just let her go inside it'll teach her it's ok to go inside. Please help!
@pawlitebestfriends7673 Жыл бұрын
Hello, I actually always hold off on potty training my feral dogs for the first 2 weeks or so. That way we can build a bond and they learn to trust me. Otherwise I am breaking their trust every time I need to over-handle them to go outside. That massively slows down progress because there is a significant chance I violate a boundary the dog has. Instead I build their trust, use pee pads and start potty training from scratch when they are ready to go outside with me. Essentially I would rather work on potty training when they are ready and trust building upfront and it does speed up the overall process

Been trying to rescue a feral dog for over a year now. Can get him to come within a foot or two of me on good days. That's a long way from when he would run back in the woods if i made eye contact with him. I never face him when I'm trying to get him to come close. I keep a low profile and speak softly. Do the same thing the same way every time. If he doesn't come out and eat. I take the food away and drive down the road for a while and try again. Some days i may leave several times before he comes out. One day we had played the game so many times we were both frustrated. When i returned he was waiting as i stepped out of the car. He shook his head and fussed at me. Not barking but you know how they do. He came right over and ate lol. Hopefully we will get him before something bad happens. A year so the odds are not getting any better for him.

Wow! Really good job you've done with Louise. We have recently adopted a beautiful Fiest. She shows signs of having been feral. From what Brother Wolf told us, all indications are that she was in fact feral. My wife and I are doing the best we can with her. Progress is slow. I'm not pushing her. We call her Estella. I wish I could drop her off with you to work with her and then return her to us. Estella is using the pad and eats well but spends most of her time hiding under a blanket on the couch. I am able to pull her up onto my lap without her trembling. That's progress. I see from your links that you offer a video course in training. I'll take a closer look at that. Thanks for the help.

Thank you! I'm glad you are making progress with he your little lady, it can definitely be an uphill battle with ferals and a lot of trial and error. I am looking forward to starting a feral board and train program this year, I will likely record it and make a feral dog rehabilitation specific online course, the one on my profile can be helpful because it covers training concepts, but it is not made for feral dogs. Good luck!

So good. Appreciate the coaching and the lovely updates. I truly pray that you follow Jesus Christ and know that we are in the end times now, everything ramped up these past 3 years. If you have not known Christ, call on Him, ask forgiveness for sin, read the NES & Old Testaments (King James version is most solid and very beautiful), to get understanding. It is the only absolute Truth in the world. You could read it aloud to your pups to hear your voice while you feed your eternal soul. Don’t take those v a x x een s or anything else the “Beast” system pushes. Satan is prince of this world, he sets the worldly rules, he is after SOULS - but JESUS is The Way, The Truth, and The Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him bcs only HE took the death (eternal separation from God, the only source of good, love, light, truth…) our sins deserved so that we could have eternal LIFE, not endless torment which the absence of God is by definition, this is SPIRITUAL WARFARE, it’s very real. Call on Jesus, ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit and you will be able to see, and to make sense of Scripture, the living Word of God. I care about you, I pray you will seek the Lord. I found him very late in life at 51. But HE IS FAITHFUL to deliver us from darkness to Light, and unending love and infinite everlasting experiences in glory await all who are in Christ. Please read the Gospels, and Ephesians chapters 1 and 6, and then do it all again, and then Genesis to Revelation (and repeat), and PRAY W ALL YOUR HEART. Time is very short now. CALL ON JESUS before everything falls apart more and more. With love to you, I surely pray to see you in eternity.

"surprisingly difficult for some dogs to learn, especially if they are sensitive so social and Spacial Pressure" Based on the claim, the observations reveal: 1) sterile and controlled environment, no distractions from traffic, other animals and humans. 2) puppies or small sized adults are used, restricted or non-representative sample size to prove significance of method 3) the carpet intentionally or unintentionally, served as a tactile guide for the subject. 4) samples did not show evidence in the degree of seriousness in the subject's misbehaviour before receiving the corrective remedies. Showing success with a small sample, and in a clinical environment, the method looks promising to proceed to a practical environment with a wider sample. It can highlight differences between other training methods but not enough to criticise other training methods. 🙏

You’re really helping me (with no dog experience) trying to help a very skittish stray. Unfortunately often I’m seeing my mistakes after the fact!!🤦🏼♀️, praying he will recover from my blunders and be ok. I know this note is a year after, but thx it’s been so sweet seeing the change. // We are in the Biblical end times now, and all who call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus shall be saved. I pray you know Him. What’s already happening is written in Scripture, and what’s ahead in Revelation will either terrify people or wake them up to the Truth, Jesus, to be saved.
