Doing Nothing with Your Dog- Why it's so important to teach them to just chill

Even (especially) if you have high energy dogs or puppies, they should learn how to do nothing so that they can relax appropriately and learn to emotionally regulate better. We have 9 dogs, half of them are sports dogs and they all know how and when to relax, which also helps to make them really fun pets and makes it easier for us to take them to fun places such as breweries, public concerts and more. It also helps them to get the appropriate amount of rest so that they aren't as jittery and overtired, which we see in a lot of puppies and dogs who are not able to settle and get enough rest.

Good advice with the in-house leash! Not only does teaching calmness help in the home, it helps while out. Mine can run around like crazy with their friends, but when given the “chill out” command, they know it’s time to take a break. They get compliments on how well behaved they are. If only people understood what it really takes to raise good pups. Lol
