Thanks for sharing it with us Chris . Your process is methodical and meticulous. Sorcerer is such a cool game with great artwork . Finding that NOS playfield was definitely a win ! Didn’t require a bunch of touch ups .
@highendpins3 күн бұрын
That NOS playfield was a definite luxury. I have OCD rituals and that is ingrained into the process.

What grit did you start out with before you went to the final sanding?

For polishing ? 1200 For the final prep prior to clear and the 800gt. 400.

You’re the real sorcerer in this video, Chris! The way you’re transforming this game is nothing short of amazing! I especially liked the footage you shared on the spinners and the coin door.

Thanks for the coin door tutorial. I'm about to redo an ES coin door in the next couple of weeks. Now I know exactly how to handle it.

Coin doors can be quite a chore. I like the newer games where we can just buy one and throw it on there but when we can’t…,,,,

How you mix the paint so accurately is nothing short of miraculous!

Thanks! Color matching is something that was essential in my previous career as a high end auto painter. It was the difference in making a living or losing my ass on redos some weeks so I developed a good eye for it pretty quickly.

Man I wish I would of seen this method of drilling holes 2 months ago. I just did a NOS Stellar Wars that the playfield wasnt drilled, and I took tracing paper and laid it down, drew key spots to use for alignment, then punched holes in the paper, transferred the paper over to new playfield, then used a marker to dot all the holes, then drilled.
@highendpins5 күн бұрын
I have done it many different ways it really depends on if you want to save the old playfield or not. The thing I like best about using the old one as a template is the accuracy of it.

If I had room, I'd love to get my hands on all 3 in this series of machines. Comet (06/85), Cyclone (02/88), Hurricane (08/91) I know they aren't the most acclaimed Williams machines. But I love the theme.

Me too. They are a very complete series and represent the time period well.

Question, what grain paper do you use when sanding off the new decals on the cabinet instead of cutting them?
@highendpins8 күн бұрын
Usually cutting with 180 then a finishing pass with 320. Kind of depends on what part. The bottom edge needs a bit of a bevel but the other parts really just need the decal separated.

Hi, Chris! Roughly how many hours per week do you spend working on these restorations. Just curious…
@highendpins8 күн бұрын
Probably 60 or so a week. It’s broken up in stages. Hard stuff in the morning,then a workout ,shower and late lunch. After that easier task until almost bedtime most nights. I have it set up to not feel like work for that second part even though it still really is.

The trailer wiring harness was a nice touch and I am now add that to my list of wiring hacks that I’ve seen in pinball machines 😂. My latest was someone had electrical taped a lamp cord on to the line cord going into the machine . And by lamp cord I mean no ground . It’s not like the ground leg is important on a pinball machine or anything 😂. That NOS playfield is beautiful. The colors on that are still so vivid. Someone kept that wrapped up in a closet somewhere away from the sun !
@highendpins8 күн бұрын
That trailer wiring was a first for me. I have definitely seen all kinds of weird things. Some extremely dangerous. The NOS playfield is really a luxury. It is making this the best it can be.

G'day from the Great White North, Christopher. Still enjoying all of your content after binge watching the entire channel. A question you might consider answering on your next Q&A: What kind of aggregate do you use in your tumblers? I've heard of people using crushed walnut shell but I don't think it's aggressive enough. Your thoughts?

Yes they are the best. Honestly with the volume I have done the past twenty some years I get wholesale pricing at most vendors I frequent but spend over $100k a year on parts in total so it helps offset it a bit.

Interesting choice with the plastic lane guides. I was wondering how clean the cutting would come out, but it seems basically smooth and transparent (??) The extra good thing is that this should let more light into the plastics on top of them, and it looks like it's eliminated any flipper hop as well 😳
@highendpins12 күн бұрын
Yes. More light,matches well,gets rid of the plastic stand offs and eliminates ball hop. Really glad you could appreciate that detail many would overlook it.
@ramairneon11 күн бұрын
How exactly DID you get you get the edges of the cutting so nicely finished? Just a steady hand and a dremmel?
@highendpins11 күн бұрын
@@ramairneonI did the initial cutting and shaping with a grinder then watersanded the cut edges smooth with 600 grit followed by flame torching that same edge.

@highendpins12 күн бұрын
Thanks. I dawned on me when I was making the video how durable the aprons are after they are reworked and cleared. Before that just wiping it with the wrong thing would destroy it now you can buff the shit out it without worry.

Also what tool is that I think you’re using to pull up the t nuts from the top side?
@highendpins12 күн бұрын
That is a tool a friend made me years ago. It’s not something you can buy but you could cover a large thick washer with felt on one side (that goes up against the finished side of the playfield)and do something similar.
@ADRUNKPUNKPRODUCTION13 күн бұрын
What can black did you use for the apron?
@highendpins12 күн бұрын
That is SEM metal etch primer. It’s not what you would paint it with but what you would prep the bare metal with.
