i’m glad she took that gold plaque she did with the intention to bring them all success ! something for all of them ! unsupportive father i know but he probably didn’t notice nor care anyway she was all.

No matter the true story.., but, about This film version; I think it’s Outstanding ! all were incredible ~ But Rose📌 wow indeed ., she really was the true Star💫⚡️ she did it ALL ( of course Louse was gorgeous ) everything was because of Rose, she truly was the electricity, the creativity, backbone, talent ! and the fight they have prior to this scene was perfect! and the resolution of accepting her mama🌹 Excellent writing, composition all of it. “ how did i feed everyone on a buck ? “ omg she was the real Star all along. June eh, at least Gypsy Rose Lee in this movie embraces her with her mink even hahaha yay !!!!!!!! 🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 bye herbie .. your loss . :)

Stephen Sondheim said it best when he said, "I don't want a Singer who can act, I want an actor who can sing." When you just sing the story in our minds dry up. When the story is in the eyes (and expressions) it takes on life. Rosalind Russell makes it so clear in this. Even though she is singing a story you can't help but believe she is speaking her truth.

There have been Many incredibly memorable dance scenes and sequences in the movies over the years, but sometimes Pure Magic is made, and with this Wonderful number, that is exactly what happened! Bob Fosse and the shapely Carol Haney performed a routine that was Perfect, Dreamy, Mesmerizing, Sensual and absolutely Haunting! This one short piece stole the show of a great movie! You find that you simply can't look away from it, and can't help but to play the part back and watch it over and over again!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗

This is my first time watching Rosalind Russell as Rose. I saw a clip of her on the old game show What’s My Line and she tricked the blindfolded panel into believing that she was a man with a husky voice. She was trying hard not to laugh.

I actually love how “dignified” this version is. I get that a lot of people want Rose to go “crazy” here but I like that this version shows a woman who, even at her lowest point, is still trying to keep it together as any true showgirl would.

Most people assume Rose is just motivated by a desire for fame, but I think it's way more than that. I remember something Judy Garland acknowledged about her own, equally brutal stage mother - "My mother was part of an era that was hard on women. She wanted so desperately to be a person in her own right." I believe that's also true for Rose. She's desperate not to be weak and just take what the male-dominated world tells her, and it drives her so much that it blinds her to what she's denying herself, and her daughters.

Librettist Arthur Laurents and Lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who hated this movie (as did composer Jule Styne, reportedly because Jack Warner promised them Judy Garland), made much of the black and white shoes, but it's an underrated performance from an underrated movie.

Spoiler alert: Rosalind Russell was partly dubbed by Lisa Kirk. In her autobiography, she said it was her singing. Not entirely true. I think she could have sung the entire song herself.
