Hey, everyone. As much I love this trailer, DC has completely soured me today. Even though there are hundreds of these reactions out there with no problems, DC has decided they will not allow me to monetize the video and have rejected my appeals (as well as my 12 other re-edits). Considering I was laid off work 3 weeks ago and Superman is my favorite superhero, this couldn't feel more like a swift kick in the jingle b@lls if they tried. I don't want to ask for money (though my Ko-fi is in my description), I will ask if you like the video please consider hitting like and subscribe. If I at least got a few more awesome people in my community, I would still consider it worth it. Happy holidays or Merry Christmas, all!

On the theme music there was a time where out of respect for Christopher Reeve creators had the challenge of recreating Superman without pissing people off I realize now it makes sense but there was a time where anything Superman was set to an impossible Christopher Reeve standard so they were careful with things like music out of respect.
@OneProtagonist3 сағат бұрын
And honestly, they have used it several times over the years. It was in Smallville for the finale and Superman Returns used it as well. I just always found it strange the DCEU didn’t include it. Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE the Hans Zimmer theme, but I think the hopeful tones of Williams was sorely missed in Henry’s movies.

David Corenswet, the new Superman Actor, was the one who convinced James Gunn to add the trunks back because he believes Superman despite being an OP alien he wants to not be scary looking for the people or even children and the trunks will make him look goofy but at the same time a friendly superhero. Because of that, it sold me. This is the start of DCU so they added the other heroes but James Gunn said that he won't put in much in screentime but just to introduce them but won't pull the focus away to Superman. Btw, the Yamcha pose (from Dragonball Z his defeated pose become a meme) made my conviction solid to watch this film lol.

The fact that this trailer almost made me tear up despite me not being the biggest Supes person I think says something about James (hopefully) nailing the tone

@@aricaj.3006 I’ve never been a huge Superman fan and more of a Batman fan. But I have to say I’m more excited for this now than the clayface movie and the Batman part 2. With everything in the world today we just NEED the hope this exudes.
@fusionaddictКүн бұрын
I'm optimistic about this one. I think Gunn understands the Batman/Superman dichotomy and it shows here. Making a Batman movie is way easier than making a Superman movie because when you have a hero lurking in the dark, you can hide the janky seams. Batman is a hero for midnight, but Superman is a hero for high noon...hell, he's even literally powered by sunlight. Superman's world has to be bright and colorful and hopeful, and maybe even just a little bit kitschy. I love the old-style Daily Planet building because Superman should feel like a throwback to simpler times, where morality was more clear about right and wrong. DC has always treated its heroes as sort of a modern mythology, to the point where Kirby even created heroes called the "New Gods." If we're taking this at face value, then Superman is most certainly the God of Americana. In that respect, I think the visual tone is spot-on. The 2nd most vital thing to get right is Lois & Clark's relationship, which should feel playful more than anything else. If that's what they're going for, Rachel Brosnahan is most likely going to shine here. The only qualm I have at this early stage is the costume. I feel like it's a little silly to have Superman -- a character who is nigh-invulnerable -- wearing a suit with pads. It feels a little stiff to me. It's supposed to feel inspired by circus strongmen and pro wrestlers. It feels too much like they are trying to compete with Marvel's costume design style.
@OneProtagonistКүн бұрын
Yeah, I’m not sold on the costume either. It may work once we see it more, but when updating, I prefer they stick to a more minimalist design like in Superman & Lois where it has character and depth without all the extra speed lines. My assumption is he gets the suit from the fortress and it’s some regal House of El design. I just wish the El’s skipped the high collar trend🙃

I didn't see any of the promos for this, and I have described it to people as being like the goonies after only seeing the first episode. I think they nailed the mark on that. What made it cool was the aspect of the kids going on an adventure, giving each other code names, and bringing walkie talkies. That really made this show feel fun and the whole sneaking out when they were not allowed to be out with friends. Things like that really brought me back to my childhood. I geeked out over Brutus being in there even though that alien was hated by George Lucas. He removed it from that cantina scene in later release of A New Hope and the fact that they put it in and gave him voice lines and made him important to some degree was greatly amusing to me. Second to that if you have ever seen Ewoks Battle for Endor, you would know of a creature named Teek, who also happens to be the species known as Teek. They put a Teek into episode 3 and I LOVED that. It was a thing where if you know you know. I think these guys have really proven that they know their Star Wars. They know it in depth and they are not messing around. They are giving people a true star wars experience, and honestly I love it all. This show is more on point than anything has been in quite some time. I like everything Star Wars, but I would be lying if I said there were no flaws in some of the more recent stuff.

Now, you asked for theories, so here’s mine (separate from the comments on the quality of the show itself): I think At Attin was the keystone of the Old Republic’s reserve economy, their equivalent to Fort Knox and the US Mint. The Star Wars galaxy uses MANY currencies, including within the Republic itself. Consider today, even defunct currencies like $2 notes, Eisenhower & Susan B Anthony $1 coins, and Silver Certificates are still fungible currency. They likely will be removed from circulation if deposited at the bank, but that bank will still take them. So it isn’t unreasonable that Old Republic’s credits, while perhaps not common, are still accepted as currency, just as old bank note designs are still accepted in the US. When the crab guy in Episode 2 sees Wim’s ingot, he specifically asks how he got an Old Republic Credit **in mint condition.** It’s not the type of currency that surprised him, clearly he’s familiar with it, but the **condition** of the coins. This would indicate that At Attin is still minting currency. Given the teacher droid was teaching about economic risk modeling when Fern’s mom stopped by, and the presence of the placement test, it could be that the majority of all industry in At Attin still resolves around managing credits. It’s like if Wilmington, Delaware (where all the credit card banks are located) were its own planet. The two key factors that affect value are supply & demand. So imagine you had a world that was your galaxy’s commerce center, and was where the vast majority of your reserve currency was minted & stored. Now, imagine that world was suddenly cut off from the rest of civilization. This would have two very different effects: it would drastically increase the value of currency across the galaxy (deflation), while simultaneously drastically reducing it on that world (inflation). So when Wim’s dad gave him those credit ingots for his lunch money, it was probably pocket change to them, but anywhere else in the galaxy Wim’s lunch money for a week is a king’s ransom. This is because credits are in ridiculous overabundance on At Attin, to the point where their entire government workforce is now constructed around literally just counting and re-counting the money and tracking how it circulates. The world doesn’t appear to have any real natural resources other than the forests, which don’t seem to be particularly exploited at the moment. And the planet has been doing this for so long, with no contact with the outside, that no one knows what that money is actually worth anymore. And if the Supervisor is a droid or computer system, as many speculate, it could be stuck in a loop, following its two final prime directives from the Republic: manage the money and restrict access to the planet. But there’s a big problem looming here: if this is the case, were the planet to re-enter the galactic stage, it could potentially completely destabilize the New Republic economy by devaluing the currency to near-worthlessness. So…remember how everyone was comparing the show to The Goonies? Do you recall what the Fratellis were nabbed for? … COUNTERFEITING. I think At Attin was hidden to keep someone from getting control of the mint.

What I mostly feel about is that this is a nice SW show, to get us through till to almost February while waiting for Andor S2 and SW Celebration in April. So watching this show almost feels to me like walking on a "bridge" that makes the journey smoother towards more interesting things. But I do hope that they have some pleasant surprises in store for us yet with Skeleton Crew too.

Glad to hear that you've given it a chance at least, Jeremy, and even better that it isn't contributing to any pressure to film reactions - we're all rooting for you, sir! As a child of the 80s myself, this show pushes my nostalgia buttons, intrigues me without frying my brain, has young characters that don''t irritate but are actually fleshed out and individual, there's humour, action and charm in the script and acting, and the direction, music and pacing are easy on on the eye, ear and mind! Kudos to those viewers who've always known SW was meant for fans of all ages and still have an inner child about them! My only minor gripe is that I'll always want SW episodes to have a minimum of 45 minutes run time, but I'm just greedy, I guess! Take care, Jeremy!

I am a sucker for anything Star Wars. Like most people, I was not expecting much from this series judging by the trailers and premise, and I must have loved it more than I consciously admitted to myself as I found myself waiting several hours in anticipation of the third episode dropping when I should have been asleep. Loved the mystery elements woven into the plot. Viewers interest were captured by the payoffs episode to episode, never a dull moment so far.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this either but I'm genuinely loving it so far, I think its biggest strength is knowing how to have fun with itself and not be cynical about the fact that Star Wars can and should sometimes just have fun with itself. I also love that it's basically reverse _Treasure Planet_ , which is probably Disney's most underrated animated movie and I hope this gets more people to watch and appreciate it 😂 And yes I love Kh'ymm (the owl) too! That was such an interesting character design and I love that she actually flies like an owl lol
@OneProtagonist7 күн бұрын
You say Treasure Planet and I think Treasure Island (I feel myself aging as I say that 😆) Agree it's biggest strength is definitely knowing how to have fun. This will be strange to say, but I'm kind of hoping there isn't some galaxy-threatening level threat by the end. I like the idea that these kids are on an adventure that's just a little to big for them :)

When life treats you like a pinata, keep in mind... that's not candy. Skeleton Crew is actually quite fun so far, and I say that as a 60 year old single dude who was not particularly excited to watch it, especially after the disappointing Acolyte. I totally understand your lack of enthusiasm, particularly for Star Wars since the fans have become so hateful and toxic. Other than a few true fans I avoid most reactors and fan groups. I can also relate to one's life seemingly crumbling overnight. I've had issues my entire life due to a chromosome defect, but I overcame it for the most part and turned myself into a multi-skilled tradeperson and technician, as well as someone with above average literacy. In spite of working my ass off for decades, my reward in 2011 was to have my spinal cord and nervous system betray me, and my chronic fatigue became far more severe. Both cats passed, and the year ended with my mother passing even though she was fine six months earlier. I struggled into 2012 trying to keep working but just couldn't do it. My wife of twelve years then divorced me, which was the right thing to do. There are temporary treatments for my spinal issue, but I have zero access to health care of any kind so even those were off the table. Because of that, I would never want her to be saddled with any medical expenses I might incur. Even with all that, instead of feeling sorry for myself I dusted off my literary education and experience and tried my hand at writing fiction. Sadly, even after seven books I failed to build any significant audience in spite of making myself known to the fan base fairly well. People don't want anything new, particularly by authors not yet established. That means I've had very little income since I was forced to stop working. Anyway, by health has continued to decline, including both my eyes becoming cloudy after something came apart inside them. For the last twelve years suicide has been a constant consideration, but not based on the backdrop of depression and futility I feel but as a practical solution to avoid becoming a physical and financial burden to those I care about. One thing I have not allowed to be tainted is my fandom. I find it a welcome distraction to immerse myself in a new story, and there have been some good ones in recent years.

Sending kindness, inner strength and hope to your way (between darkness and defeat, hope survives, from Kenobi teaser) I'm gonna comment also on your Star Wars take. I too feel the fatigue (and I'm not gonna even get started with the fandom/content creators, its just making money because hate sells, thats all it is. Its just miserable all around). It feels like the period between ROTS and before Disney bought SW, the hype is gone. Not hyped for Skeleton Crew, Andor S2 will probably be good but still and Mando&Grogu movie is a bit meh too because their arc already had a good enough ending in S3. Maybe Ahsoka S2 down the line will spark the interest again and if Filoni one day gets to do his Heir to the Empire movie. But its a low point being a SW fan now. But hope lives on that it will be exciting again one day. Like life itself too.

I'm sorry to hear you're still going through such a tough time, I'm currently in between jobs myself (in addition to a bunch of other shit going on) and my mental health has been in the gutter for the past several months so I feel you. It's especially hard when you're already struggling with depression and anxiety and life isn't doing anything to improve things. I really hope things will turn around for you soon and that at the very least you can find some joy in the things you used to ❤ Also dealing with fandom bs is something I sadly relate to as well, it's become so exhausting and I hate that people always feel the need to ruin what those of us who are struggling rely on as a positive coping mechanism. I will say as someone who had to step away from fandom in general for a few years, giving yourself space to just enjoy what you love in private really does help with the healing process. So I hope you can find some solace for awhile just chilling with Star Wars on your own instead of forcing yourself to engage with the fandom element of it. When I came out of hibernation yours was one of the channels that helped tone down some of my cynicism towards fandom and fandom engagement. That cynicism and distrust will never go away 100% but you have been a positive force in your own way so I hope you can take some comfort from that
